Yeovil Town secured an impressive 1-0 victory over Kidderminster Harriers at Aggborough, with substitute Johl Powell scoring the only goal of a closely contested National League encounter. The result ended Kidderminster’s eight-match unbeaten run and continued Yeovil’s recent improvement.
The opening period was competitive, with both sides looking for opportunities without being able to find the breakthrough. Kidderminster entered the contest third in the table and unbeaten since the opening day of the season, while Yeovil arrived having taken four points from their previous two fixtures.
Chances proved difficult to convert during the opening 45 minutes as both defensive units held firm. Kidderminster’s David Davis received the first yellow card of the afternoon in the 43rd minute, but neither side was able to break the deadlock before the interval and the teams went into half-time level at 0-0.
Yeovil made a change shortly after the restart, with Ben Radcliffe replacing Joe Gubbins, while Kidderminster introduced Zak Brown for Max Brogan in the 56th minute as both managers looked for a way to influence a tightly balanced contest.
The decisive change came from the Yeovil bench in the 67th minute when Powell replaced Zain Westbrooke. The forward had scored twice as a substitute in the Glovers’ 4-1 victory over Solihull Moors the previous weekend and once again made a significant impact after his introduction.
The breakthrough arrived in the 74th minute. Slavi Spasov supplied Powell, who found the net to put Yeovil 1-0 ahead and give the travelling supporters something to celebrate. It was Powell’s third goal in two matches, all three having come after being introduced from the bench.
Kidderminster responded by pushing for an equaliser during the closing stages. Lewis Walker was cautioned in the 81st minute as the hosts attempted to find a way back into the contest, but Yeovil protected their narrow advantage.
The Glovers made further changes as the match approached its conclusion, with Mason Obeng, Stephen Walker and Charlie Lennon introduced during the closing stages. Kidderminster continued to search for an equaliser, but Yeovil held firm to preserve both their lead and a valuable clean sheet.
The final whistle confirmed a 1-0 victory for Yeovil and brought Kidderminster’s eight-match unbeaten National League sequence to an end. Powell’s contribution from the bench again proved decisive, following his late brace against Solihull in Yeovil’s previous fixture.
The result moved Yeovil onto 18 points from ten National League matches and extended their unbeaten run to three games, during which they have collected seven points. Kidderminster remained on 18 points from ten matches after suffering their first league defeat since the opening day of the season.
