Kidderminster Harriers secured a valuable three points at Aggborough Stadium, overcoming Hartlepool United with a 2-0 victory. The win, built on a first-half own goal and a late Callum Stewart header, continued Paul Wotton’s side’s strong start to the English National League season.
The opening exchanges were competitive, with both sides looking to establish a foothold. Hartlepool United’s Jack Hunter was booked in just the third minute, before Neo Eccleston also received a yellow card three minutes later. Kidderminster began to create the clearer opportunities, with Lewis Walker threatening before Max Brogan struck the post from the edge of the area. Walker was also cautioned in the 29th minute.
The deadlock was eventually broken in the 35th minute. Following a scramble inside the six-yard box, a deflected effort struck Neo Eccleston and rolled beyond goalkeeper Nathan Fisher, handing Kidderminster Harriers a 1-0 lead. The own goal proved to be the only breakthrough of the first half, sending the hosts into the interval with a slender advantage.
Hartlepool made a tactical change at half-time, introducing Jordan Hugill in place of Jack Hunter. However, their task became considerably more difficult just two minutes after the restart when Eccleston was shown a second yellow card, reducing the visitors to ten men.
Lee Clark responded with further changes, introducing Jay Benn and Cole Deeming for Chris Popov and Jack Nolan early in the second half. Despite their numerical disadvantage, Hartlepool continued to search for an equaliser, with Deeming later dragging an effort narrowly wide as the visitors looked for a route back into the contest.
Kidderminster also turned to their bench as they sought to make their advantage count. Zak Brown replaced Max Brogan in the 67th minute, while Ethan Moore was introduced for Callum Dolan in the 75th. Hartlepool brought on Terry Bondo for Will Harris at the same time.
The decisive second goal arrived in the 85th minute. Moore delivered a well-weighted cross into the area and Callum Stewart rose to meet it, powering a header beyond Fisher from close range to make it 2-0 and put the result beyond doubt.
Kidderminster made one final change in the 89th minute, with Reece Hall replacing Ben Crompton, before comfortably seeing out the remaining minutes to secure the clean sheet and all three points.
The victory moved Kidderminster Harriers into second place in the English National League table on Friday night, with 14 points from seven games after four wins, two draws and one defeat. Hartlepool United remained in 12th place with nine points from seven fixtures, having recorded three wins and four defeats. The result extended Kidderminster’s unbeaten league run to six matches, while Hartlepool were left to reflect on another difficult away evening.
