Grosvenor Vale was the scene of an eventful English National League encounter as ten-man Kidderminster Harriers secured an impressive 4-1 victory over Wealdstone. Lewis Walker scored twice for the visitors, who overcame a first-half red card to extend their unbeaten league run to five matches.
Kidderminster made the perfect start, taking the lead after just three minutes. Lewis Walker reacted quickest when the ball dropped inside the area and fired home from close range to put the Harriers ahead before Wealdstone had been able to settle into the contest.
The complexion of the match changed significantly in the 27th minute when Kidderminster defender Angus MacDonald was shown a red card for a high challenge, reducing the visitors to ten men. Wealdstone took almost immediate advantage of the numerical superiority, with Connor McAvoy heading home the equaliser just a minute later to make it 1-1.
The match was then halted for around 27 minutes following two medical emergencies in the crowd. Both individuals were attended to by medical staff, reported to be in a stable condition and taken to hospital. Play eventually resumed, with an extended period of first-half stoppage time, but neither side could find another breakthrough before the interval.
Despite playing with ten men, Kidderminster regained the lead almost immediately after the restart. In the 47th minute, the visitors were awarded a penalty and Callum Dolan converted from the spot to restore their advantage at 2-1.
Harriers continued to threaten despite their numerical disadvantage and extended their lead in the 56th minute. Cian Harries arrived to meet a low delivery and swept the ball home, giving Kidderminster a two-goal cushion and leaving Wealdstone with an increasingly difficult route back into the match.
The home side attempted to respond and used their substitutions in search of greater attacking threat, but Kidderminster remained organised and disciplined. Rather than simply protecting their lead, the visitors continued to look dangerous when opportunities arose and increasingly appeared comfortable despite playing much of the contest with ten men.
Kidderminster completed the scoring in the 81st minute. Walker found space and fired into the bottom corner for his second goal of the afternoon, putting the result beyond doubt and completing an emphatic 4-1 victory.
The final whistle confirmed an impressive away performance from the Harriers, who responded superbly to the setback of MacDonald’s first-half dismissal. Having been reduced to ten men while leading 1-0, they went on to score three times after Wealdstone’s equaliser and secure a deserved three points.
The victory moves Kidderminster Harriers onto 11 points from six league matches, with three wins, two draws and one defeat, lifting them to eighth place in the English National League table. Wealdstone remain on five points from six games and drop to 20th after suffering their third league defeat of the season.
