Boreham Wood continued their unbeaten start to the National League season with a convincing 3-0 victory over Solihull Moors at Damson Park. Ben Whitfield scored twice before Jay Bird added a third as the league leaders recorded their eighth victory in ten matches and maintained their impressive early-season form.
The opening period was closely contested, with Solihull looking to make life difficult for the league leaders after a challenging start to the campaign. Boreham Wood gradually began to create openings, but the hosts held firm for much of the first half and the contest appeared likely to reach the interval goalless.
The breakthrough eventually arrived in the 43rd minute. Whitfield found the net shortly before half-time to give Boreham Wood a valuable 1-0 advantage and ensure Luke Garrard’s side went into the interval in front.
Boreham Wood wasted little time extending their lead after the restart. Just two minutes into the second half, Marley Marshall-Miranda supplied Whitfield, who converted for his second goal of the afternoon to make it 2-0. The quick second goal left Solihull facing a considerable task with almost the entire second half still to play.
Solihull attempted to find a route back into the contest and turned to their bench, with Florent Hoti among those introduced as the hosts searched for a response. Boreham Wood, however, protected their advantage while continuing to pose a threat at the other end.
The visitors put the result beyond doubt in the 76th minute. Zak Brunt supplied Bird, who found the net to make it 3-0 and complete the scoring. Solihull made further changes during the closing stages, including the introductions of Ashton Lance-Pencheon and Rio Shipston, but were unable to find a consolation goal.
Boreham Wood comfortably managed the remaining minutes to secure both the victory and a clean sheet. Whitfield’s brace continued his excellent start following his arrival on loan from Barrow, while Bird’s second-half goal completed another convincing performance from the National League leaders.
The victory moved Boreham Wood onto 26 points from ten matches after eight wins and two draws, extending their unbeaten start to the campaign. Solihull Moors remained on four points from ten matches after suffering their eighth league defeat of the season.
