Altrincham produced a devastating second-half spell to defeat Hornchurch 3-0 at the J. Davidson Stadium, scoring three times in nine minutes to secure their third successive National League victory. Sam Taylor, Charlie Kirk and Jimmy Knowles were all on target as the Robins turned a goalless contest into a convincing home win shortly after the interval.
The first half was a much tighter affair, with Altrincham enjoying periods of possession but Hornchurch proving difficult to break down. The hosts looked for openings without being able to turn their pressure into a breakthrough, while the visitors remained in the contest and ensured the sides went into half-time level at 0-0.
That changed almost immediately after the restart. In the 48th minute, Aidan Barlow delivered into the penalty area and Taylor met the ball with a header to beat the Hornchurch goalkeeper and give Altrincham the lead.
The breakthrough transformed the contest and Altrincham doubled their advantage just six minutes later. Kahrel Reddin delivered across the face of goal and Kirk arrived to convert from close range in the 54th minute, putting the Robins firmly in control.
Hornchurch had barely had time to recover before Altrincham struck again. Reddin was once more the provider in the 57th minute, supplying Knowles, who finished to make it 3-0. Three goals had arrived in the space of nine minutes, effectively settling a match that had remained goalless throughout the opening 47.
Hornchurch manager Daryl McMahon attempted to change the course of the contest, with Asher Yearwood replacing Tom Wraight at half-time before Charlie Pegrum was introduced for Josh Walker. However, the visitors were unable to produce the response required after Altrincham’s rapid burst of scoring.
With a commanding advantage established, Neil Gibson was able to make changes during the remainder of the second half. Jack Hinchy replaced Tom Crawford, while Lucas Weaver was introduced for Reddin after the winger’s influential contribution to two of Altrincham’s goals.
The Robins comfortably managed the closing stages to preserve both their three-goal advantage and a clean sheet. Hornchurch were unable to find a consolation and the final whistle confirmed an emphatic 3-0 victory for the hosts.
The result moved Altrincham onto 18 points from ten National League matches and continued an excellent sequence of results for Gibson’s side. The Robins have now won six of their last seven league fixtures, with the 5-1 defeat at Woking the only interruption to that run. Hornchurch remained on 15 points from ten matches after suffering their fourth defeat in five league games.
