Aldershot Town produced a devastating attacking display to beat Tamworth 5-1 at the EBB Stadium, scoring four times before half-time and adding a fifth shortly after the restart. Michee Efete and Marcus Dinanga both scored twice as the Shots swept aside their visitors to record their biggest National League victory of the season.
Aldershot made the perfect start, opening the scoring inside two minutes. Hakeem Sandah drove forward before releasing Brody Peart down the right, and the youngster finished confidently to give the hosts an immediate advantage.
The Shots continued to threaten and doubled their lead in the 20th minute. Efete found the net following a free-kick to make it 2-0, leaving Tamworth facing a considerable task with only a quarter of the match played.
Aldershot struck again in the 33rd minute. Peart, already on the scoresheet, was involved once more as Dinanga converted at the back post to extend the advantage to three. Tamworth were unable to stem the flow and the hosts added another just before the interval, with Efete heading home in the 44th minute to complete his brace and send Aldershot into half-time with a commanding 4-0 lead.
Tamworth made changes in an attempt to alter the course of the contest, but Aldershot required only six minutes of the second half to strike again. Sandah’s initial effort was saved, but Dinanga reacted to the loose ball and converted the rebound in the 51st minute to score his second of the afternoon and make it 5-0.
With the result effectively settled, Aldershot were able to manage their advantage while making changes of their own. Jacob Borgnis, Ollie Harfield and Tristan Abrahams were among those introduced as the second half progressed, while Tamworth also turned to their bench in search of a response.
The hosts were reduced to ten men in the 79th minute when captain Kiki Oshilaja received a second yellow card following a heavy challenge. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Aldershot remained comfortably in control, although Tamworth were eventually able to deny them a clean sheet deep into stoppage time.
Ben Acquaye scored the visitors’ consolation in the 92nd minute, his effort from the edge of the penalty area taking a deflection on its way into the net. It did little to alter the complexion of an afternoon dominated by Aldershot, and the final whistle confirmed an emphatic 5-1 home victory.
Efete was named man of the match after combining his two goals with an assured defensive performance, while Dinanga’s brace and Peart’s early opener completed an impressive attacking display from the Shots. The victory also provided an emphatic response to the previous weekend’s 1-0 defeat at Barrow.
Aldershot had begun Saturday eighth in the National League with 15 points from nine matches, but the victory moved them onto 18 points and they finished the day fifth in the table. Tamworth remained on eight points after suffering their sixth defeat in ten league matches.
