Solihull Moors 2-1 Kidderminster Harriers

Solihull Moors came from behind to beat Kidderminster Harriers 2-1 at Damson Park, with goalkeeper Sam Johnson producing crucial saves as Chris Millington’s side secured back-to-back National League victories. Lewis Walker gave the visitors an early lead before Ben Wodskou equalised three minutes later, and a Ben Crompton own goal shortly before half-time ultimately settled a contest in which Kidderminster created several opportunities to take something from the game. Harriers made the perfect start in the third minute when Maz Kouhyar spotted Callum Stewart’s run behind the Solihull defence. Stewart raced clear before unselfishly squaring for Walker to finish into an almost empty net. The lead lasted just three minutes, however, as Marvin Johnson delivered a free-kick into the penalty area and Wodskou found space to head beyond Jack Wint for the equaliser. Solihull had a golden opportunity to take the lead in the 15th minute when Wint rushed out to meet a ball but lost his footing, leaving Jacob Wakeling with an open goal. The forward failed to capitalise, sending his effort wide. Kidderminster responded with an opportunity of their own when Kouhyar helped advance possession to Max Brogan, who released Crompton down the flank. His cross was headed down by Cameron Hargreaves, but captain David Davis fired over the crossbar. Wodskou then went close to a second goal, shooting narrowly over from 18 yards following a passing move. The visitors nearly regained the lead twice in quick succession in the 32nd minute. Kouhyar struck a rising effort following a corner, forcing Johnson into a save, and the loose ball fell to Crompton, whose powerful follow-up was also blocked by the Solihull goalkeeper. Those missed opportunities proved costly when Solihull took the lead in the 41st minute. Wodskou delivered a cross from the flank and Crompton, stretching to intercept the ball, inadvertently diverted it beyond Wint and into his own net. The own goal gave Solihull a 2-1 advantage at half-time despite Kidderminster having created several chances. The hosts threatened to extend their lead shortly after the restart when Wakeling found space at the far post in the 51st minute, but he lashed his effort over the crossbar. Kidderminster manager Paul Wotton introduced Michael Reindorf for Brogan in the 67th minute and Bruce Minaker for Stewart four minutes later as the visitors searched for an equaliser. Walker created another opportunity in the 73rd minute when he beat the offside trap and advanced towards goal, but a recovering defender put him under pressure and he could not generate sufficient power on his finish, allowing Johnson to make the save. Solihull also threatened a third goal, with Crompton producing an important block to deny Marvin Johnson, while Kouhyar sent a long-range effort over the bar with five minutes of normal time remaining. Kidderminster continued to press and almost snatched an equaliser in stoppage time. Kouhyar drove forward before releasing Minaker into space, and the substitute cut inside before curling a shot towards goal that Johnson did well to beat away. The ball was returned to Minaker for another attempt, but his effort took a deflection and was gathered by the goalkeeper as Solihull survived the late pressure. The victory followed Solihull’s 3-2 success at Wealdstone in midweek and gave Millington’s side consecutive league wins after a difficult run of four defeats. It also provided revenge for their 2-1 FA Cup defeat to Kidderminster a fortnight earlier. Harriers, meanwhile, extended their winless National League sequence to eight matches despite creating opportunities in both halves, with Johnson’s saves ultimately proving decisive. Solihull moved to 13 points from 16 league games, while Kidderminster remained on 21 points from the same number of matches.

TopB1ns Edge

Right then, let’s get stuck into this Solihull Moors vs Kidderminster Harriers clash. The final whistle blew with a 2-1 scoreline in favour of the home side, Solihull Moors. Now, for the bookies’ odds on the 1X2, it was a real toss-up: 2.50 for a Solihull win, 3.50 for the draw, and 2.50 for Kidderminster to nick it. Where did TopB1ns Edge stand? Well, it fancied an away day win for Kidderminster, which, as we know, didn’t quite pan out. That’s a bit of a miss for the Edge there, but early days, eh?

On the Both Teams to Score front, the odds were stacked towards ‘Yes’ at 1.57, with ‘No’ at 2.25. TopB1ns Edge, however, was calling for ‘No’. As it turned out, both teams did find the net, so the Edge missed that one too.

Looking at the Over/Under markets, it was a bit of a mixed bag. TopB1ns Edge correctly predicted Over 0.5, Over 1.5, and Over 2.5 goals, which all landed. It also correctly called Under 3.5, Under 4.5, Under 5.5, and Under 6.5. So, while the 1X2 and BTTS calls weren’t spot on, the Over/Under predictions were pretty much bang on the money. It’s the little teething issues we expect from a V1 model, but the core logic is clearly sound. We’ll keep an eye on how it develops!
