Forest Green Rovers 2-2 Harrogate Town

Harrogate Town recovered from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Forest Green Rovers at The New Lawn, scoring twice in five second-half minutes after Neil Kengni and Kyle Kelly had given the hosts a commanding half-time lead. Lewis Payne and Ellis Taylor completed the comeback, but goalkeeper Luke Hutchinson needed to produce an outstanding late save to prevent Forest Green from securing a second successive National League victory. Rovers made a bright start and took the lead in the seventh minute when Kengni collected possession near the edge of the penalty area and guided a composed finish into the bottom corner beyond Hutchinson. The hosts nearly doubled their advantage immediately afterwards when Bryan Ifeanyi created an opening for Will Grigg, but the Harrogate goalkeeper came off his line to deny the striker from a tight angle. Forest Green went close again in the 13th minute when Kelvin Abrefa advanced down the right and released Tate Campbell, whose effort struck the post. Harrogate responded with an opportunity of their own when Taylor found space outside the penalty area and struck a powerful shot against the crossbar, leaving goalkeeper Luke McNicholas beaten. Forest Green continued to threaten through Abrefa, whose deliveries from the right caused problems for the visitors, before finally doubling their advantage in first-half stoppage time. Ifeanyi worked his way into the penalty area and saw his initial effort blocked, but recovered possession and laid the ball into Kelly’s path. The midfielder finished calmly beyond Hutchinson to make it 2-0 at the interval. Harrogate returned from the break with greater urgency and reduced the deficit in the 52nd minute when Forest Green failed to clear the ball from their defensive area. Payne collected possession and drove a low shot across McNicholas into the far corner. Just four minutes later, the visitors were level. Forest Green failed to deal with a long ball forward and Josh Hmami found Taylor in space inside the penalty area, allowing the midfielder to finish beyond McNicholas and complete the comeback. Forest Green introduced Oliver Ewing for Ifeanyi in the 55th minute before D’Mani Mellor replaced Grigg shortly after the hour. Harrogate also made changes, with Ciaran McGuckin replacing Brad Dolaghan before George Thomson and Warren Burrell were introduced during the closing stages. The visitors had an opportunity to take the lead when a Harrogate forward met a delivery inside the penalty area, but his header lacked power and McNicholas gathered comfortably. Forest Green responded through substitute James Berry, who combined with Kyle McAllister before being brought down by Harrogate captain Lewis Cass near the edge of the area. The challenge resulted in a booking for Cass, while members of both coaching teams were also cautioned following protests. The hosts came agonisingly close to regaining the lead in the 87th minute when Ewing won another free-kick in a dangerous position. Jayden Clarke curled his effort towards the top corner, but Hutchinson produced an excellent save to tip the ball onto the post. The Harrogate goalkeeper then survived a fortunate escape when his attempted clearance struck a teammate and looped back towards goal, only for the ball to bounce narrowly wide. Forest Green had one final opportunity in stoppage time when Mellor found McAllister in space, but the captain cut inside and sent his left-footed shot just past the upright. The draw extended Forest Green’s unbeaten league sequence to two matches following their midweek victory over Eastleigh, leaving them on 19 points from 14 games. Harrogate remained second in the National League with 32 points from 16 matches, having recovered from their 3-0 defeat against nine-man Carlisle United to secure a point despite trailing by two goals at half-time.

Right then, let’s get stuck into this one. Forest Green Rovers and Harrogate Town served up a proper 2-2 thriller. The bookies were all over the shop, pricing up Forest Green at 2.45, the draw at 3.60, and Harrogate at 2.50. Our TopB1ns Edge, however, fancied the home side to nick it, predicting a Forest Green win. That’s where it went a bit pear-shaped on the 1X2, but don’t worry, these are just early teething issues for the old Edge.

Where the Edge really shone was with the Both Teams to Score bet. TopB1ns Edge was bang on with ‘Yes’ at a tasty 1.53. It also nailed the Over 0.5, 1.5, and 2.5 goals, showing a keen eye for a bit of goalmouth action. It even called the Under 3.5, 4.5, 5.5, and 6.5 goals correctly, showing it’s not just about goals flying in willy-nilly. A solid performance from the Edge, despite the 1X2 wobbles. We’ll get there, lads!
