Tamworth 0-1 Woking

Harrison Sohna scored a dramatic 90th-minute winner as Woking secured a 1-0 victory over Tamworth at The Lamb Ground, with Josh Kelly providing the decisive assist after both sides had missed opportunities to break the deadlock. The result gave interim manager Craig Ross a valuable away victory and ended Tamworth’s hopes of building on their midweek 4-1 success against Scunthorpe United. Tamworth manager Andy Peaks named an unchanged starting XI following that victory, while Woking handed new signing Josh Grant his first appearance in defence. The hosts made an encouraging start, with Ramell Carter winning an early free-kick before Teo Kurtaran’s delivery forced a corner. Woking responded through Aiden O’Brien, who tested goalkeeper Jonathan Macaulay with an early effort, while John Marquis nearly capitalised when the Tamworth goalkeeper’s attempted clearance struck the Woking captain in the 11th minute. Kurtaran sent a long-range free-kick over the crossbar before Woking created several opportunities from corners midway through the half. Carter forced Vicente Reyes into a save following a Tamworth counter-attack, but the visitors came close when Ogie met a corner with a diving header from inside the six-yard area, only to direct his effort wide. Woking threatened again around the half-hour mark when Ogie was involved in a goalmouth scramble, with Tamworth defenders blocking his initial header and follow-up effort from close range. Ogie was subsequently booked for a challenge on Morgan Roberts, while Kurtaran also received a caution before the interval. Tom McGlinchey had a speculative effort that curled away from goal, but neither side could find a breakthrough before half-time. Peaks made two changes at the interval, introducing TJ Bramble and Ryan Howley for Gabriel Kelly and Kurtaran, and Tamworth immediately threatened when captain Tom Parkes rose to meet a corner but headed narrowly over the crossbar. Roberts then drove an effort towards the near post, forcing Reyes to protect his goal. Woking responded when Ogie advanced down the left and cut the ball back for O’Brien, whose low shot was gathered by Macaulay. Tamworth had a strong opportunity to take the lead in the 65th minute when Roberts intercepted possession inside the Woking penalty area and found himself with a clear sight of goal, but Reyes reacted quickly to deny him from close range. Kieren Donnelly also missed a promising opening after Hayden Carson’s cross reached him near the edge of the area, but he failed to make a clean connection. At the other end, Macaulay bravely intervened to prevent Marquis reaching a dangerous ball at the near post, while Tom Handley blocked another effort from Ogie. Both managers made further changes, with Luke Fairlamb and Dan Creaney introduced for Tamworth and Liam Dulson replacing O’Brien for Woking. Donnelly had another opportunity in the 84th minute after carrying the ball out of midfield, but his hurried shot flew over the crossbar. Woking then threatened when Ogie and Sohna combined to keep the ball alive inside the Tamworth area, creating a chance for Kelly, whose effort from 12 yards was gathered by Macaulay. With the match approaching stoppage time, Kelly made another run down the left and this time found Sohna with a cut-back into the penalty area. The midfielder guided a left-footed finish inside the far post in the 90th minute, securing a dramatic late winner for the visitors. Tamworth were unable to respond during the added minutes, leaving Woking to celebrate their second away league victory in three matches following their earlier success at Scunthorpe United. The result lifted the Cards to 21 points from 16 National League fixtures, while Tamworth remained on 17 points from 15 games after suffering their eighth league defeat of the season.

Right then, let’s get stuck into this Tamworth v Woking affair. The scoreline tells a grim tale for the home side: Tamworth 0-1 Woking. A proper smash-and-grab from the visitors, nicking it right at the death.

Looking at the bookies, they had Tamworth at 2.20, the draw at 3.70, and Woking at 2.75. Our TopB1ns Edge, however, fancied a home win, which, as we can see, was a bit off the mark. The 1X2 result was a clear ‘2’ for Woking, so the Edge missed the main event there.

Now, for the goals. The bookies were all over “Both Teams to Score: Yes” at 1.44, but our TopB1ns Edge thought “Yes” was the shout, which, given the 0-1 scoreline, was a proper howler. That one’s a definite loss.

The Over/Under markets are a bit of a mixed bag. TopB1ns Edge correctly predicted Over 0.5 goals, which was a given, really. But then it went a bit rogue, tipping Over 1.5 and Over 2.5 when the actual outcome was Under. That’s a bit of a stumble. However, the Edge did nail the Under 3.5, Under 4.5, Under 5.5, and Under 6.5, so it got the higher numbers spot on. Seems like the Edge fancies a low-scoring affair when it comes to those bigger totals. Overall, a bit of a mixed bag, but the Over/Under 3.5 and above predictions showed some real sharpness.
