Wealdstone 3-2 Southend United

Olufela Olomola scored a dramatic stoppage-time winner as Wealdstone twice came from behind to beat third-placed Southend United 3-2 at Grosvenor Vale, ending the Shrimpers’ five-match unbeaten National League run. Leon Chambers-Parillon scored twice for the visitors, but Fejiri Okenabirhie’s penalty and substitute Luke Norris’s second-half header brought the Stones level before Olomola struck in the 94th minute. The result also gave Wealdstone a measure of revenge for their FA Trophy final defeat to Southend at Wembley in May. Gary Waddock made four changes following Tuesday’s 3-2 defeat to Solihull Moors, with Dante Baptiste returning in goal and Okenabirhie replacing Norris in attack. Southend made the stronger start, taking the lead inside five minutes when Anthony Hartigan delivered a free-kick from the right. The ball deflected into Chambers-Parillon’s path and the forward volleyed a powerful finish beyond Baptiste. Wealdstone responded when Olomola found Okenabirhie near the edge of the penalty area, but his curling effort was saved by Joe Duncan. Southend nearly doubled their advantage in the 21st minute when Promise Omochere broke down the right and squared for Oli Coker, only for Aidan Francis-Clarke to recover and make a crucial sliding block. The hosts equalised shortly afterwards when Joe Newton switched play to Dylan Kadji, who drove into the area and was brought down by Kyle McAdam. Referee Jason Richardson awarded a penalty, and Okenabirhie sent Duncan the wrong way to make it 1-1 in the 24th minute. Southend responded with a series of opportunities, with Omari Patrick forcing Baptiste into an excellent save after combining with teammates on the left. From the resulting corner, Patrick found space at the far post and struck a volley against the upright. The visitors regained the lead in the 39th minute when McAdam advanced down the left and delivered a cross that deflected towards Chambers-Parillon. The forward guided his finish into the far corner to complete his brace and give Southend a 2-1 advantage at half-time. Wealdstone almost equalised three minutes after the restart when an attempted delivery from the edge of the penalty area struck the crossbar and caused a goalmouth scramble, but Southend managed to clear. Waddock made a triple substitution in the 57th minute, introducing Norris, Milton Oni and Tyrelle Newton, and the changes quickly proved influential. Six minutes later, Oni played the ball wide to Joe Newton, whose cross reached Norris at the far post. The substitute directed a header back across Duncan and into the bottom corner to make it 2-2. Southend nearly restored their lead immediately when Ryan Colclough found space inside the penalty area, but Dion Conroy produced an important block to deny him. The Wealdstone captain intervened again shortly afterwards to clear a dangerous Vontae Daley-Campbell cross from the six-yard area. Wealdstone then threatened through Joe Newton, whose low shot was gathered by Duncan, before Francis-Clarke sent an acrobatic effort wide and Olomola fired over from outside the penalty area. Southend had an excellent opportunity to take the lead when substitute Tyreece Simpson raced behind the defence and rounded Baptiste, but Conroy recovered to make a crucial goal-line block. Simpson later narrowly failed to reach Colclough’s low cross as the visitors continued searching for a third goal. With four minutes of stoppage time announced, Wealdstone launched one final attack. Norris controlled a long ball and flicked it into Tyrelle Newton’s path, allowing the substitute to advance into the penalty area and drive a low cross across the six-yard box. Olomola arrived unmarked at the far post and finished into the empty net in the 94th minute, sparking celebrations among the home supporters. The Stones held on to secure their second league victory in three matches and end a run of successive home defeats. Southend, who had also surrendered leads in their previous draws against FC Halifax Town and Worthing, suffered their first league defeat in six games and remained on 29 points from 16 matches. Wealdstone moved to 18 points from 16 games, with Waddock’s substitutes playing a decisive role in a memorable comeback victory.

TopB1ns Edge

Right then, let’s have a butcher’s at this Wealdstone v Southend clash. The Stones nicked it 3-2 in a proper goal-fest. Now, the bookies had Southend as hot favourites at 1.73, with Wealdstone a generous 3.80. TopB1ns Edge, bless its cotton socks, called for Southend to win. That’s a miss, but it did flag up that both teams to score (BTTS) was on the cards, and at 1.44, that came in, so a good shout there.

Where TopB1ns Edge really shone was the over/under markets. It was bang on with Over 0.5, 1.5, 2.5, and even 3.5 goals, all hitting the mark. It even fancied Over 4.5, which also landed, showing a real knack for predicting a lively game. The only slight wobble was Over 4.5, where the Edge predicted Under, but the goals flew in. Still, considering the scoreline, it was a solid performance from the model, picking up on the attacking intent from both sides. A few teething issues, maybe, but the genius is definitely starting to show!
