Worthing 0-3 Sutton United

Chris Agutter enjoyed a triumphant return to his former club as Sutton United scored three times in 12 first-half minutes to beat Worthing 3-0 at the Sussex Transport Community Stadium, ending the Rebels’ 10-match unbeaten National League run. An own goal from Jayden Moore opened the scoring before former Worthing striker Temi Babalola doubled the advantage and Charlie Carter converted a penalty, with Brandon Njoku playing a decisive role in the visitors’ attacking display. Agutter made four changes following Sutton’s midweek victory over Aldershot Town, restoring captain Jake Taylor to the starting line-up alongside Babalola, Njoku and Dan Urpens. Worthing manager Adam Hinshelwood also adjusted his side after the 3-3 draw with Southend United, bringing Jordan Young, Charley Kendall and Jack Wadham into the starting XI. The opening exchanges were physical, with Babalola receiving an early booking and Joel Colbran’s challenge on Carter sparking a confrontation near the dugouts. Sutton began creating problems through their direct approach, and the breakthrough arrived in the 21st minute when Urpens launched a long throw into the Worthing penalty area. Moore attempted to deal with the delivery but inadvertently glanced his header beyond goalkeeper Taylor Seymour and into his own net. The visitors doubled their advantage four minutes later when Njoku pressured Joe Cook into failing to clear a ball forward. The Sutton forward seized possession and laid it back for Babalola, who drove a powerful finish into the top corner from inside the penalty area against his former club. Worthing’s difficult afternoon continued in the 33rd minute when Carter showed excellent skill to release Njoku down the left. The forward beat his marker and attempted to round Seymour, but the goalkeeper brought him down inside the penalty area. Referee Harry Wager awarded the penalty, and Carter stepped up to send Seymour the wrong way, placing his spot-kick down the middle to make it 3-0. Sutton’s aggressive start also brought four first-half bookings, with Babalola, Joe Knight, Taylor and Carter all cautioned before the interval. Worthing eventually created an opening late in the half when sustained possession allowed Cory Adjetey-Brew to shoot towards goal, but his effort was directed straight at Spike Brits. The hosts introduced Charlie Waller and Dan Isichei shortly after the restart as Hinshelwood looked for a response. Coleman De-Graft came close with a dipping long-range effort that landed on the roof of the net, while Isichei side-footed wide after combining with fellow substitute Emmerson Sutton. The visitors continued to threaten at the other end, with Carter forcing Seymour into a save from a powerful effort. Worthing made further changes, introducing Harvey Griffiths and Emmerson Sutton in the 67th minute, and the latter came closest to reducing the deficit when his deflected strike crashed against the post. Sutton remained organised during the closing stages, with Agutter introducing David Ogbonna, Sam Folarin, Jermaine Francis and Bobby Amartey as the visitors protected their three-goal advantage. Worthing were unable to find a breakthrough, leaving Sutton to complete a second successive league victory following their 2-0 win over Aldershot Town on Wednesday. The result marked a memorable return for Agutter, who had previously guided Worthing before departing for Sutton, and inflicted the Rebels’ first National League defeat since August. Sutton moved to 24 points from 16 matches, climbing to 11th in the table, while Worthing remained on 28 points from 16 games after their 10-match unbeaten sequence came to an end.

Right then, let’s get stuck into this one. Worthing 0-3 Sutton United. Not exactly the barnstormer we were hoping for from a betting perspective, is it? The bookies had Worthing as favourites at 1.83, but TopB1ns Edge called it bang on with Sutton United to win at 3.60. That’s the kind of value we’re after.

Now, for the goals, it was a bit of a mixed bag. TopB1ns Edge correctly predicted BTTS ‘Yes’, but the game ended 0-0 for that market, so that one missed. On the Over/Under front, TopB1ns Edge was spot on with Over 0.5, Over 1.5, and Over 2.5. However, it did miss on the Over 3.5, Under 4.5, Under 5.5, and Under 6.5. Bit of a teething issue there for the model, but we’ll get it sorted. All in all, a decent shout on the outright winner, and some of the goal markets showed promise. We’ll take the wins and learn from the losses.
