Yeovil Town came from behind to earn a 1-1 draw with Worthing at Huish Park, with a Joe Cook own goal cancelling out Razzaq Coleman De-Graft’s first-half opener.
Worthing almost made the perfect start inside the opening minute. Coleman De-Graft cut the ball back for Ricky Aguiar, whose first-time effort from inside the penalty area was kept out by Yeovil goalkeeper Jos Barker.
Yeovil responded with opportunities of their own. Ryan Jones helped create an opening for Johl Powell, whose effort was stopped by Taylor Seymour, before the Worthing goalkeeper denied Powell again when the forward was sent through one-on-one. Jordan Norville-Williams then went even closer, striking the post with a powerful effort from outside the area.
Despite Yeovil’s chances, Worthing took the lead in the 28th minute. Coleman De-Graft controlled the ball outside the penalty area before sending a low effort towards goal which took an awkward bounce and slipped underneath Barker to put the visitors ahead.
Worthing had an opportunity to double their advantage before the interval when Jordan Young delivered for Charlie Waller, but the defender headed narrowly wide. Yeovil’s Norville-Williams was booked shortly before the break as the visitors went in 1-0 ahead.
The Glovers were level almost immediately after the restart. Brett McGavin sent a free-kick from near the left corner flag into a crowded penalty area and the ball struck Worthing defender Joe Cook before finding the net for an own goal in the 47th minute.
Both sides had opportunities to take the lead after the equaliser. Cook produced an excellent recovery tackle to deny Powell at one end, while Ben Radcliffe made an important block from a Worthing effort at the other. Powell later drove a dangerous ball across the face of goal which Slavi Spasov was unable to convert.
Yeovil introduced Mason Obeng and Zain Westbrooke for Hayden Muller and James Daly in the 64th minute before Stephen Walker replaced Spasov ten minutes later. Worthing’s Emmerson Sutton came on for Jordan Young in the 77th minute, while Charlie Lennon replaced Powell for Yeovil with seven minutes remaining.
Worthing went particularly close to regaining the lead when Coleman De-Graft drove into the area and picked out Cory Adjetey-Brew, whose first-time effort was stopped by an excellent Radcliffe block. Jack Kingdon also made an important intervention as both sides continued to threaten, but neither could find a winner.
The draw extended Worthing’s unbeaten National League run to six matches, following three wins and three draws. Yeovil are now unbeaten in four, taking 10 points from that sequence after victories over Solihull Moors and Kidderminster Harriers followed by Tuesday night’s draw.
