Altrincham 2-4 Carlisle United

Carlisle United scored twice in the closing stages to beat Altrincham 4-2 at the J. Davidson Stadium, with substitutes Micah Obiero and Jonah Lowes settling a six-goal encounter after Lucas Weaver had twice put the Robins in contention. The victory followed Carlisle’s extraordinary nine-man win over Harrogate Town and extended their unbeaten National League run to six matches. Altrincham took the lead after just five minutes when Weaver capitalised on a mistake by Bradley Nicholson in the Carlisle defence. The forward won possession, advanced towards Morgan Feeney and dropped his shoulder before driving a shot into the bottom corner beyond Adam Desbois from outside the penalty area. Carlisle responded with Regan Linney testing goalkeeper Harry Isted after being released by Teddy Jenks. Linney later forced his way into the penalty area but fired narrowly wide at the near post, while Altrincham sought to preserve their early advantage. The visitors finally equalised on the stroke of half-time following a move involving Linney and David Ajiboye. Linney flicked the ball into Ajiboye’s path, and the winger found Callum Whelan arriving on the edge of the area. The midfielder drove his finish into the bottom corner from around 15 yards to make it 1-1 at the interval. Carlisle created several opportunities after the restart, with Isted producing important saves to deny Linney twice before stretching to prevent Ajiboye from scoring after Stephen Wearne had released him through on goal. At the other end, Desbois made an acrobatic save from Tom Crawford as both teams searched for the lead. The breakthrough came in the 61st minute when Callum Camps struck a powerful volley from outside the penalty area into the far corner, putting Carlisle ahead for the first time. Altrincham responded through Weaver, who forced Desbois into another save before completing his brace in the 76th minute with an angled finish from inside the penalty area, assisted by Crawford. Carlisle thought they had regained the lead shortly afterwards when Feeney put the ball into the net, but the goal was disallowed for handball. Rob Elliot then introduced Obiero and Ryan Galvin in the 83rd minute, and the changes quickly proved decisive. Obiero needed barely a minute to make his mark, collecting Nicholson’s long pass before advancing into the penalty area and finishing beyond Isted to restore Carlisle’s advantage in the 84th minute. It was another significant contribution from the substitute, who had also scored in the victory at Solihull Moors earlier in the season. Altrincham pushed for another equaliser, but Carlisle secured the points in the seventh minute of stoppage time. Galvin supplied the ball for Lowes, who finished to register his first senior goal for the Cumbrians and complete a 4-2 victory. The result gave Carlisle a fourth successive away league win and extended their unbeaten sequence to six matches, including five victories. Elliot’s side moved to 28 points from 16 games, drawing level with Altrincham, who suffered their first home league defeat since the opening day of the season. The Robins remained on 28 points after Weaver’s brace proved insufficient to prevent a second successive home match without victory.

Right then, let’s get stuck into this Altrincham vs. Carlisle United clash. The final whistle blew with Altrincham 2–4 Carlisle United. The bookies had Carlisle as the slight favourites at 2.20, with Altrincham at 2.88 and the draw at 3.60. Now, where did TopB1ns Edge stand? Well, it fancied Altrincham to nick it, which, looking at the scoreline, was a bit of a howler, eh? That’s a definite miss for the 1X2 prediction, a real “teething issue” for version 1, I reckon.

However, it wasn’t all doom and gloom. TopB1ns Edge absolutely nailed the Both Teams To Score bet, with odds of 1.50. It also correctly predicted Over 0.5, Over 1.5, and Over 2.5 goals, all of which went in. The Over/Under 3.5, 4.5, 5.5, and 6.5 markets were a mixed bag, with TopB1ns Edge calling Under on the higher numbers, which, given the 6 goals, was a decent shout, even if the Over 3.5 and 4.5 also landed. So, a bit of a mixed bag, but that BTTS call was spot on. We’ll take it.
