Carlisle United 0-0 Kidderminster Harriers

Jack Wint saved a stoppage-time penalty from Regan Linney as Kidderminster Harriers held Carlisle United to a 0-0 draw at Brunton Park, denying the hosts a third consecutive National League victory. It was the young goalkeeper’s third penalty save of the season.

Both sides had opportunities during the opening stages. Morgan Feeney met Miguel Azeez’s free-kick for Carlisle, but Wint gathered his effort, before Reece Devine cut inside at the other end and sent a shot narrowly wide of Adam Desbois’ goal. Lewis Walker then glanced a Ben Crompton delivery wide for Harriers.

Carlisle came closest to breaking the deadlock before half-time when Feeney met a corner unmarked and directed his header against the inside of the post. The ball bounced clear, while Teddy Jenks later sliced an effort wide after being picked out inside the penalty area.

Kidderminster manager Paul Wotton introduced Max Brogan for Crompton at half-time, and Carlisle threatened within three minutes of the restart when Linney forced Wint into a good block. Harriers responded immediately as Callum Dolan crossed for Walker, whose effort bounced into the turf before clearing the crossbar.

David Ajiboye then carried the ball into the Kidderminster penalty area and drove a low shot narrowly wide. Walker had another opportunity for the visitors in the 58th minute, striking just off target from around 18 yards, before Brogan sent a long-range effort over the bar.

Wotton replaced Owen Evans with Luey Giles in the 55th minute, while Carlisle manager Rob Elliot introduced Stephen Wearne and Micah Obiero for Teddy Jenks and Ryan Galvin six minutes later. Jack Ellis was subsequently replaced by Tom Anderson as the hosts continued searching for a breakthrough.

Linney had another chance in the 87th minute but fired over from inside the area. Carlisle were then handed their clearest opportunity in the first minute of stoppage time when Cian Harries was penalised for a challenge on Anderson inside the box.

Linney stepped up to take the penalty, but Wint saved his effort to preserve the goalless scoreline. It was the goalkeeper’s third penalty stop of the campaign and secured Kidderminster a point after Carlisle had come within one kick of winning the match.

The draw ended Carlisle’s two-match winning sequence following away victories over AFC Fylde and Aldershot Town. Elliot’s side moved to 17 points from 13 league games, remaining in the middle of the National League table.

Kidderminster extended their winless run to four league matches, having previously lost to Yeovil Town and Boreham Wood before drawing with Sutton United. Wotton’s side moved to 20 points from 13 games and recorded their second clean sheet in their last five league outings.

TopB1ns Edge

Right then, let’s get stuck into this one. Carlisle United and Kidderminster Harriers played out a proper drab 0-0 draw. The bookies had Carlisle as strong favourites at 1.48, with the draw at a juicy 4.20. Our TopB1ns Edge, however, fancies Carlisle to take the spoils, which, as we can see, was a bit of a swing and a miss.

Where the Edge really shone was in the Both Teams To Score market. Bookies offered 1.75 for ‘Yes’, but the TopB1ns Edge was firmly on ‘No’ – and bang on the money it was! Even better, the model nailed the Unders across the board, predicting Under 0.5, 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5, 5.5, and 6.5 goals. The odds for these were decent, especially for the higher numbers, and the TopB1ns Edge proved its worth here, showing a real knack for predicting a low-scoring affair when the bookies weren’t quite so sure. A couple of teething issues with the 1X2 prediction, but the goal markets were a proper winner. Cheers to the algorithm!
