Tamworth 1-2 Barrow

Barrow made it five successive National League victories with a 2-1 win at Tamworth, where Rekeem Harper and Corey Edwards scored after half-time before the Bluebirds survived a late penalty and a stoppage-time chance for the hosts.

Tamworth had the first opportunity when Riccardo Calder dispossessed Marcel Oakley and delivered a cross that Ben Winterbottom gathered. Tom Parkes then headed a Teo Kurtaran free-kick wide, while Arian Allen threatened for Barrow before Calder recovered to prevent him going through on goal.

Barrow came close to opening the scoring in the 21st minute when Seb Thompson struck from around 25 yards, forcing Rhys Lovett into a full-stretch save. Thompson later sent another effort narrowly wide, while Joe Rye had a header blocked at the other end.

Edwards created one of the best chances of the first half with five minutes remaining, beating three Tamworth defenders before sending a left-footed shot inches wide of the near post. Hayden Carson also went close for the Lambs, striking wide after a clearance as the teams reached half-time level.

Tamworth threatened immediately after the restart, with Kieren Donnelly, Tom McGlinchey and Rye involved in a sequence of attempts that ended with Winterbottom gathering Rye’s half-volley. Barrow then won a penalty in the 50th minute when Alex Reid raced into the area and was brought down by Lovett after touching the ball past the goalkeeper.

Harper stepped up and converted in the 51st minute to put Barrow ahead, extending his scoring run to five successive league matches. The visitors doubled their advantage ten minutes later when Arian Allen supplied Edwards, who finished on the volley to make it 2-0. Tamworth’s account attributes the delivery to Reid, but the structured event data and Barrow’s report credit Allen.

Tamworth manager Andy Peaks introduced Ben Acquaye and Jake Hutchinson for Riccardo Calder and Tom McGlinchey in the 67th minute, while Barrow replaced goalscorer Edwards with Isaac Marriott shortly afterwards. Adam Murray later brought on Dan Mooney, Adam Alimi-Adetoro and Innes Cameron as the visitors looked to preserve their advantage.

The hosts were given a route back into the contest in the 89th minute when Kurtaran was brought down inside the penalty area. He converted the resulting spot-kick to reduce the deficit to 2-1, leaving Tamworth with eight minutes of added time to find an equaliser.

Tamworth nearly rescued a point in the sixth minute of stoppage time when Donnelly released Acquaye, who beat his marker but sent his shot inches wide of the post. The substitute took a knock while attempting the finish and was replaced in the closing moments as Barrow held on.

The victory extended Barrow’s winning sequence to five league matches, following successes against Aldershot Town, Southend United, Scunthorpe United and Wealdstone. Murray’s side ended Saturday eighth with 21 points from 13 games, while Tamworth remained 18th on 14 points after their two-match winning run came to an end.

Right then, let’s have a butcher’s at this Tamworth v Barrow clash. The final score was 1-2 to Barrow, a decent result for them, but a bit of a kick in the teeth for Tamworth.

Looking at the 1X2 market, the bookies had Barrow as slight favourites at 2.30, with Tamworth at 2.60 and the draw a bit longer at 3.60. Now, here’s where TopB1ns Edge had a bit of a wobble, as it fancied Tamworth to nick it. That didn’t quite come off, so a bit of teething trouble there for the model.

However, TopB1ns Edge absolutely nailed the Both Teams To Score (BTTS) prediction, calling ‘Yes’ and the odds were a tasty 1.53. That one landed bang on.

On the Over/Under front, TopB1ns Edge was spot on with the lower numbers. It correctly predicted Over 0.5, Over 1.5, and Over 2.5. The odds for Over 1.5 were a snip at 1.18, and Over 2.5 at 1.62. It also correctly called Under 3.5, Under 4.5, and all the way up to Under 5.5, with the odds for Under 3.5 at a generous 1.50. So, despite the 1X2 miss, the model showed some serious smarts on the goal markets. Overall, a mixed bag, but plenty to build on.
