Yeovil Town 1-2 Altrincham

Substitute Kristian Dennis scored his first Altrincham goal in the closing minutes as the Robins came from behind to beat Yeovil Town 2-1 at Huish Park, ending the Glovers’ unbeaten league run and moving above them in the National League table.

Both sides threatened early on, with Leo Farrell testing Yeovil goalkeeper Jos Barker before Johl Powell gave the hosts the lead in the 14th minute. A long ball forward caused problems for Altrincham defender Otis Khan, allowing Powell to break through and finish beyond Harry Isted.

Yeovil nearly doubled their advantage six minutes later when Jordan Norville-Williams combined with Powell to create an opening for Slavi Spasov, but Isted saved the forward’s effort. Ben Radcliffe then advanced from defence and struck a powerful shot that hit teammate Spasov.

Altrincham had opportunities of their own before half-time. Matty Kosylo forced Barker into a save and Jack Kingdon cleared a Tom Crawford effort from near the back post. At the other end, Isted slipped while attempting a clearance, but recovered to save Hayden Muller’s long-range attempt after the ball fell to the defender.

The visitors threatened again after the restart when Crawford headed a deep free-kick back across goal, forcing Barker to intervene. Powell later delivered from the left for Ryan Jones, who sent his effort wide, before Yeovil introduced Mason Obeng and Owen Dean shortly after the hour.

Yeovil had another chance to extend their lead when Brett McGavin found space inside the area and forced Isted into a good save, but Altrincham equalised in the 69th minute. Radcliffe’s attempted clearance was intercepted by Farrell, who advanced and squared for Charlie Kirk to finish from close range.

McGavin and Powell both threatened as Yeovil looked to regain the lead, while Barker tipped a long-range Dennis effort over the bar in the 79th minute. Altrincham had introduced Dennis for Farrell eight minutes earlier, and the substitute made the decisive contribution in the closing stages.

Remi Raymond, another Altrincham substitute, sent a looping cross into the penalty area that struck the crossbar, and Dennis reacted to turn the loose ball home from close range. It was his first goal for the Robins and completed their second-half comeback.

Yeovil were reduced to 10 men in stoppage time when Radcliffe was shown a straight red card following a challenge on Lucas Weaver near halfway. The dismissal was followed by further bookings during a lengthy period of added time, but Altrincham held on to secure their second successive league victory.

The result lifted Neil Gibson’s side to fifth in the National League with 27 points from 14 matches, moving them above Yeovil, who dropped to sixth on 25 points. The defeat ended the Glovers’ six-match unbeaten league run following successive 6-0 victories over Boston United and Wealdstone.
