Zak Brunt scored twice as Boreham Wood beat AFC Fylde 4-0 at the Mangata Developments Stadium Meadow Park, extending their unbeaten start to the National League season to 14 matches and securing a seventh successive league victory.
Luke Garrard welcomed Tom White and Jay Bird back from injury, while leading scorer Matt Rush was named among the substitutes on his return to the squad. Fylde made the stronger start, with Millar Matthews-Lewis forcing Ted Curd into an early save before Boreham Wood created their first clear opportunity in the 17th minute. Ben Whitfield raced through and was denied by Patrick Boyes, while Corey Whelan prevented Bird from converting the rebound.
The visitors continued to threaten as Greg Olley released Luca Thomas, who shot narrowly wide with Curd beaten, before Danny Mayor exchanged passes with Thomas and also fired wide. Boreham Wood then took the lead in the 31st minute when Chris Bush picked out Brunt, who beat a defender before finishing past Boyes.
Brunt had an immediate opportunity to double the advantage when Bird was fouled inside the penalty area three minutes later, but the midfielder sent his spot-kick over the crossbar. The miss did not prevent Boreham Wood from adding two more goals before half-time.
Tarryn Allarakhia crossed for Tylor Golden to head home at the back post in the 40th minute, giving the former Altrincham defender his first Boreham Wood goal. Bird made it 3-0 just three minutes later with a well-taken finish, leaving Fylde facing a three-goal deficit at the interval.
Fylde manager Craig Mahon made four changes at half-time, introducing Theo Upton, Cedric Main, Kyrell Malcolm and Luke McCormack. Boreham Wood nevertheless threatened again after the restart, with Whitfield forcing another save from Boyes and Allarakhia going close.
The fourth goal arrived in the 54th minute when Golden dispossessed Will Lancaster and squared for Brunt, who finished to complete his brace. Cedric Main had an opportunity for Fylde shortly afterwards but sent his effort narrowly wide.
Fylde created further chances as the second half progressed. McCormack forced Curd into a point-blank save in the 73rd minute and went close again with a free-kick, while the Boreham Wood goalkeeper also denied Thomas. At the other end, Boyes prevented Brunt from completing his hat-trick.
Boreham Wood introduced Danny Cashman, Conor Wilkinson, Will Wright, Marley Marshall-Miranda and Rush during the second half, with Rush making his return after injury. Garrard’s side saw out the closing stages for a clean sheet, despite Fylde having opportunities to reduce the deficit.
The result gave Boreham Wood 12 wins and two draws from their opening 14 National League matches, extending their winning sequence to seven games. They ended Saturday top with 38 points, seven clear of second-placed Harrogate Town, while Fylde remained seventh with 23 points from 14 games.
