Yeovil Town produced their biggest win of the National League season as four goals in the closing stages of the first half set up a 6-0 victory over Boston United at Huish Park, extending the Glovers’ unbeaten run to five matches.
Billy Rowley’s side threatened almost immediately, with Johl Powell forcing Louis Chadwick into action inside two minutes. Slavi Spasov later saw a header tipped over by the Boston goalkeeper and had another effort blocked as Yeovil searched for the breakthrough.
It finally arrived in the 34th minute through an excellent individual goal from Ryan Jones. The midfielder collected possession and drove past several Boston players before cutting across the pitch and calmly finishing beyond Chadwick to put the hosts ahead.
Yeovil needed only three minutes to double their advantage. Brett McGavin took aim from distance and drove a powerful effort through a crowd of players and into the bottom corner. James Daly then made it 3-0 in the 42nd minute, finding space on the left before firing beyond Chadwick.
There was still time for a fourth before the interval. A mistake in the Boston defence allowed Powell to race through one-on-one in the second minute of stoppage time and he kept his composure to beat Chadwick, completing a remarkable burst of four Yeovil goals in around 12 minutes.
Boston manager Paul Hurst responded at half-time by introducing Tom Cursons and Gavan Holohan for Ken Aboh and Terrell Agyemang. Yeovil almost added another through Daly shortly after the restart, before the Glovers made three changes of their own on the hour as Zain Westbrooke, Charlie Lennon and Mason Obeng replaced Jones, Daly and McGavin.
Stephen Walker replaced Spasov nine minutes later and played a part in Yeovil’s fifth. The substitute delivered from the right and Obeng arrived in the middle to finish beyond Chadwick, scoring less than a quarter of an hour after his introduction.
Yeovil added their sixth three minutes later after being awarded a penalty. Powell stepped up and sent the spot-kick into the bottom-right corner to complete his brace and round off the scoring with 14 minutes of normal time remaining.
The Glovers saw out the closing stages for a clean sheet and their third victory in five unbeaten National League matches. Rowley’s side ended Saturday fourth with 22 points from 12 games, one point behind Southend United and three behind second-placed Harrogate Town.
Boston suffered their heaviest defeat of the season after arriving at Huish Park having taken four points from their previous three matches, including a 3-1 victory at Forest Green Rovers and a midweek draw at Halifax. The Pilgrims remain 20th with 12 points from 12 games.
