Innes Cameron scored twice, including a stoppage-time winner, as Barrow came from 2-0 down to beat FC Halifax Town 3-2 at The Shay and secure a sixth successive National League victory. The hosts had led through a Ben Tollitt brace before three goals in the final 20 minutes completed the turnaround.
Halifax created the better early chances, with Conor Carty forcing Ben Winterbottom into a save after eight minutes. The Barrow goalkeeper was called upon again shortly afterwards when Connor Douglas crossed for Carty, whose first-time effort was kept out.
Barrow were forced into an early change when Adam Alimi-Adetoro suffered a clash of heads with Shaun Hobson and was replaced by Danny Amos in the 27th minute. Halifax took the lead two minutes later when Carty intercepted a loose pass and released Tollitt, who beat a defender before finishing low beyond Winterbottom.
The visitors threatened an equaliser before half-time. Amos had an effort blocked, Arian Allen shot narrowly wide and Alex Reid saw an overhead kick blocked following a corner. Halifax nevertheless reached the interval with a 1-0 advantage.
Barrow manager Adam Murray made three changes at half-time, introducing Keaton Ward, Mikey Lane and Cameron. Corey Edwards had an effort saved by True Grant shortly after the restart, but Halifax doubled their lead in the 61st minute when Cody Johnson picked out Tollitt with a ball over the defence. The winger controlled it, beat several opponents and drove a shot into the bottom corner to complete his brace.
The visitors began their comeback in the 74th minute through substitute Seb Thompson, who had replaced George Walker shortly after the hour. Thompson struck from outside the penalty area, sending a powerful shot through a crowd of players and beyond Grant to reduce the deficit.
Seven minutes later, Amos delivered into the Halifax penalty area and Cameron met the cross to equalise from close range. Barrow almost completed the turnaround immediately afterwards when Grant produced two excellent saves during a goalmouth scramble, before a subsequent effort was ruled out for offside.
Halifax were reduced to 10 men in the 89th minute when Raheem Conte received a second yellow card after bringing down a Barrow player breaking through on goal. The visitors then found their winner in the second minute of stoppage time, with Mikey Lane supplying Cameron to complete his brace. Halifax’s official report and contemporary eyewitness coverage describe Cameron heading home the decisive goal, although the statistical event feed records a right-footed finish.
Halifax manager John McGrath was highly critical of his side’s collapse afterwards, pointing to their failure to deal with crosses and win aerial challenges during the final stages. The defeat ended the Shaymen’s six-match unbeaten run in all competitions and was only their second home league loss of the season.
Barrow’s sixth consecutive league victory moved Adam Murray’s side to eighth in the National League with 24 points from 14 matches. Halifax dropped to ninth on 21 points from 15 games, having surrendered a two-goal advantage with less than half an hour remaining.
