Wealdstone host Solihull Moors at Grosvenor Vale on Tuesday evening looking to build on their 1-0 victory at Aldershot Town, while the visitors arrive on a four-match National League losing run that has left them 23rd in the table.
Gary Waddock’s side secured their latest league victory through Olufela Olomola, who headed home a Jack Wells-Morrison corner shortly after half-time at the EBB Stadium. Luke Norris had earlier struck the post, while goalkeeper Sam Long made an important save from Michee Efete as Wealdstone held on to secure all three points. The result also marked a winning return to Aldershot for Waddock, who previously led the Shots into the Football League.
Wealdstone have also beaten Worthing 3-0 and Nottingham Forest Under-21s 1-0 in recent fixtures, although the latter result came outside the National League. Those victories followed a difficult spell that included a 6-0 home defeat to Yeovil Town, when the Stones had two players sent off.
Solihull suffered another setback on Saturday when they surrendered a half-time lead in a 2-1 home defeat to Carlisle United. Ben Wodskou had put Chris Millington’s side ahead with a powerful effort in first-half stoppage time, but Morgan Feeney equalised in the 69th minute before substitute David Ajiboye volleyed Carlisle’s winner eight minutes later. Solihull also had a late opportunity through Tyler French, who hooked an effort narrowly wide.
The defeat was Solihull’s fourth successive league loss, following setbacks against FC Halifax Town, Worthing and Boreham Wood. Their most recent league victory came at Woking on 29 September, when they won 4-2. The Moors have taken seven points from their opening 14 matches, with two wins and a draw.
Wealdstone won the most recent meeting between the clubs 5-1 at Grosvenor Vale in March, having drawn 1-1 at Solihull the previous November. The Stones have therefore taken four points from the last two league encounters, providing relevant recent history ahead of Tuesday’s fixture.
The hosts begin the evening 18th with 15 points from 14 National League games, eight clear of 23rd-placed Solihull. A second successive league victory would take Wealdstone to 18 points, while the visitors are seeking to end their four-match losing sequence and record their first win since September.
