FC Halifax Town welcome Barrow to The Shay on Tuesday evening with both sides level on 21 National League points, although the visitors have played one game fewer and arrive on a five-match league winning run. Halifax are unbeaten in four league fixtures and have lost only once in their last 11 matches across competitions.
John McGrath’s side twice came from behind to draw 2-2 at Southend United on Saturday. Amari Morgan-Smith cancelled out Promise Omochere’s penalty before Tayt-Lemar Trusty struck in the 90th minute to rescue a point after a Mackenzie Maltby own goal had restored Southend’s lead. McGrath said afterwards that his players were disappointed not to have won, despite facing one of the division’s leading sides.
Halifax have taken eight points from their last four league matches, including a 2-0 victory at Solihull Moors and a 4-1 home win over Gateshead. McGrath believes his young squad are gaining confidence, with senior players Shaun Hobson, Ben Tollitt and Morgan-Smith providing experience as the Shaymen look to extend their unbeaten sequence.
Barrow have won their last five league matches, most recently beating Tamworth 2-1 on 10 October. Rekeem Harper converted a penalty and Corey Edwards added a second before Teo Kurtaran pulled one back from the spot late on. Tamworth substitute Ben Acquaye then missed a stoppage-time opportunity to equalise as Adam Murray’s side held on.
The Bluebirds were due to face Forest Green Rovers at home on Saturday, but the match was abandoned after 14 minutes because of a waterlogged pitch. Their five-match winning sequence therefore remains intact ahead of Tuesday’s trip, although they have not completed a league fixture since the victory at Tamworth.
Halifax have injury concerns following their draw at Southend. Raheem Conte and Max Bardell were both due to be assessed after leaving the field with calf and hamstring problems respectively. McGrath has pointed to the depth of his squad, with Connor Douglas, Tollitt and Zak Gilsenan having played limited minutes at the weekend.
The clubs last met competitively in August 2019, when Halifax won 2-1 away at Barrow. Tuesday’s meeting brings together eighth-placed Halifax, with 21 points from 14 games, and ninth-placed Barrow, who have collected the same total from 13 matches. A sixth successive league victory would take the visitors above their hosts, while Halifax are seeking to extend their four-match unbeaten league run.
