Unbeaten National League leaders Boreham Wood face one of the division’s form sides on Saturday as Altrincham travel to Meadow Park having won seven of their last eight league matches.
Wood extended their unbeaten start to 11 games with a 3-1 victory over Kidderminster Harriers on Tuesday. Jay Bird scored twice inside the opening 16 minutes before Lewis Walker pulled one back for Harriers, who were later reduced to ten men. Jack Wint saved the resulting penalty, but Ben Whitfield headed in from the subsequent corner to secure Wood’s ninth league win of the season.
That followed a 3-0 victory at Solihull Moors and extended Boreham Wood’s winning run to four matches. Luke Garrard’s side have taken 29 points from a possible 33, scoring 29 goals and conceding 12.
Altrincham’s recent record provides a significant test of that unbeaten start. The Robins have won seven of their last eight league matches, including each of the last four, with their only defeat during the sequence coming against Southend United.
Jimmy Knowles scored the winner in Tuesday’s 1-0 victory at Gateshead with a solo effort after 21 minutes. He later had a penalty saved by Pete Jameson, who also kept out Lucas Weaver’s follow-up, as Altrincham held on for their third away victory of the campaign.
The Gateshead win followed victories over Hornchurch, Fylde and Hartlepool United, with Altrincham keeping clean sheets in the last two. Their seven victories from 11 matches have taken them to 21 points and fourth place.
The sides traded 3-1 home victories last season. Erico Sousa scored twice and Zak Brunt converted a penalty as Boreham Wood won at Meadow Park in September, before Altrincham reversed the scoreline at The J.Davidson Stadium in January.
Boreham Wood enter the weekend eight points clear of Altrincham after nine wins and two draws from their opening 11 matches. The Robins have won seven and lost four, with their recent run transforming a start that had brought three defeats from their opening four league games.
Saturday therefore brings together the National League’s only unbeaten side and a team with seven victories from eight. Boreham Wood have won their last four, while Altrincham arrive at Meadow Park on a four-match winning run of their own.
