Carlisle United travel to Altrincham on Saturday following their extraordinary 3-0 victory over second-placed Harrogate Town with nine men, while the club seeks to overturn the red cards shown to Miguel Azeez and Harvey Bunker. The Cumbrians are unbeaten in five National League matches, while sixth-placed Altrincham have gone three league games without defeat.
Rob Elliot’s side produced one of the season’s most unusual results on Wednesday, beating Harrogate despite having two players dismissed inside the opening half-hour. Josh Williams put Carlisle ahead in the 10th minute before Azeez was sent off four minutes later and Bunker followed in the 30th. Callum Whelan doubled the lead immediately after half-time and substitute Ryan Galvin added a third in the 61st minute, ending Harrogate’s five-match winning run.
Carlisle are appealing both dismissals, according to the News & Star, with Azeez and Bunker facing potential three-match suspensions if the decisions are upheld. The club had not publicly confirmed the outcome of those appeals by Friday, leaving the midfield pair’s availability for the trip to the J. Davidson Stadium uncertain.
The victory over Harrogate extended Carlisle’s unbeaten league sequence to five matches, comprising four wins and a draw. They had previously come from behind to win 2-1 at Solihull Moors, with captain Morgan Feeney equalising before substitute David Ajiboye volleyed home Callum Whelan’s cross. The Cumbrians have also beaten AFC Fylde and Aldershot Town during their recent run.
Altrincham were held to a goalless draw by 10-man Kidderminster Harriers on Tuesday, ending their five-match home league winning sequence. Luey Giles was sent off in the 66th minute, but the Robins could not find a breakthrough despite Lucas Weaver striking the post and captain Tom Crawford heading against the crossbar in stoppage time. Harriers goalkeeper Jack Wint also made several important saves.
Neil Gibson’s side had previously recorded consecutive league victories over Aldershot Town and Yeovil Town, with substitute Kristian Dennis scoring his first Altrincham goal to complete a 2-1 comeback at Huish Park. The Robins are now unbeaten in five matches across all competitions, including their FA Cup fixtures, and Gibson has emphasised the importance of the home crowd ahead of Carlisle’s visit.
Carlisle won both National League meetings between the clubs last season. Their 2-1 victory at the J. Davidson Stadium in September 2025 came despite Cameron Harper being sent off, with a Lewis Banks own goal and Regan Linney’s winner either side of a Jimmy Knowles penalty. Carlisle completed the double with a 3-1 home victory the following January.
Altrincham begin Saturday sixth in the National League with 28 points from 15 matches, five ahead of ninth-placed Carlisle. The visitors are looking to extend their unbeaten run to six league games, while Gibson’s side will be seeking a return to winning ways at home after Tuesday’s draw with Kidderminster.
