Aldershot Town host bottom club Gateshead at The EBB Stadium on Saturday with both sides searching for an end to lengthy National League losing runs. Scott Davies’s Shots have lost five successive league matches, while Gateshead have suffered eight consecutive defeats and remain on just four points from their opening 14 games.
Aldershot’s latest defeat came at Sutton United on Wednesday, when Charlie Carter scored after just 40 seconds and David Ogbonna doubled the hosts’ lead in the 11th minute. The Shots nevertheless created opportunities to get back into the match, with Michee Efete having an equaliser ruled out for offside and Basil Tuma heading against the crossbar. Sutton goalkeeper Spike Brits also made important saves from Conor Lawless and Jack Matton to preserve the 2-0 scoreline.
The result followed league defeats to Wealdstone, Altrincham, Carlisle United and Hornchurch. Aldershot’s last National League victory came against Tamworth on 26 September, when they won 5-1 at The EBB Stadium. Davies’s side have since enjoyed cup victories over Tadley Calleva and Norwich City Under-21s, but those results have not halted their league losing sequence.
Gateshead suffered another late setback on Tuesday when they lost 2-1 at Boston United. Former Boston striker Jordy Hiwula-Mayifuila put the visitors ahead in the 36th minute after being released by Harry Chapman, but substitute Tom Cursons equalised from a rebound in the 79th minute before scoring the winner five minutes into stoppage time. Gateshead had an opportunity to double their lead through Chapman before Boston’s comeback.
The defeat was Gateshead’s eighth successive National League loss, following setbacks against FC Halifax Town, Worthing, Altrincham, Wealdstone and Southend United. The Heed have not won a league match since their opening victory of the campaign, leaving them 24th with one win and one draw from 14 fixtures.
Gateshead won the clubs’ most recent meeting in April, with Chapman scoring the only goal in a 1-0 victory at The EBB Stadium. Their earlier encounter in August 2025 ended 3-3 at the Gateshead International Stadium. Kyle Hurst gave the hosts an early lead before Kwame Thomas and Cameron Hargreaves put Aldershot ahead, but Gateshead scored twice in quick succession before Hady Ghandour equalised. The Shots also had a late goal disallowed.
Aldershot have won three of the last eight league meetings between the clubs, with Gateshead winning twice and three ending in draws. The hosts begin Saturday 15th with 18 points from 15 matches, 14 ahead of bottom-placed Gateshead. Both sides are seeking their first league victory since September, with the visitors looking to avoid a ninth consecutive defeat.
