Boreham Wood secured a commanding 3-0 victory over Morecambe at the Mazuma Mobile Stadium, with a late flurry of goals in the second half sealing the win. The visitors, already assured of a playoff spot, demonstrated their class against a Morecambe side confirmed for relegation.
The opening period was a cagey affair, with neither side able to establish dominance. However, Boreham Wood found their breakthrough in the 27th minute. Abdul Abdulmalik opened the scoring for the visitors, converting a chance set up by Tom White. This goal provided Boreham Wood with a crucial advantage heading into the interval.
The second half saw Morecambe attempt to find an equaliser, making tactical substitutions in the 61st minute, bringing on Oscar Wright for Daniel Ogwuru, and later in the 73rd minute, introducing Ben Tollitt for Yann Songo’o, and Ma’kel Bogle-Campbell for Mo Sangare. However, Boreham Wood’s defence held firm, and they looked dangerous on the counter-attack.
As the match entered its final stages, Boreham Wood introduced fresh legs with Lewis Richardson coming on for Érico Henrique Esteves Sousa in the 61st minute, and Joe Newton replacing Femi Ilesanmi in the 84th minute. These changes proved inspired. In the 90th minute, Joe Newton doubled Boreham Wood’s lead, scoring shortly after his introduction, with Abdul Abdulmalik providing the assist.
The late drama continued as Boreham Wood added a third goal in the 94th minute. Substitute Lewis Richardson, who had come on earlier in the second half, found the net, assisted by Zak Brunt. This late double strike emphatically sealed the victory for the visitors.
The result sees Boreham Wood solidify their position as one of the league’s top teams, comfortably in the playoff places with 87 points from 45 games. Morecambe, meanwhile, remain at the foot of the table, their relegation already confirmed, with 38 points from their 45 matches played.
