The first half proved to be a cagey affair, with neither side able to break the deadlock. Both teams emerged from the interval with renewed intent, and it was Gateshead who drew first blood just moments after the restart. In the 46th minute, goalkeeper Peter Jameson remarkably found the back of the net with a long kick from his own half, assisted by Keon Lewis-Burgess.
