In a thrilling encounter at The Prestige Group Stadium, Hartlepool United secured a dramatic 4-3 victory over Southend United in a match characterised by relentless attacking play.
Southend United began strongly, taking an early lead within the opening minute. Andy Dallas found the net for the visitors. Hartlepool United responded positively, and their persistence was rewarded in the 31st minute when Tyrese Sinclair levelled the score, his goal assisted by Jamie Miley.
The second half saw Hartlepool United take the lead just two minutes after the restart. Alex Reid scored, following a pass from Adam Campbell. Sinclair then extended Hartlepool’s advantage in the 63rd minute, doubling his and the team’s tally. The hosts further increased their lead in the 71st minute when Jamie Miley added a fourth goal, a strike set up by substitute Jay Smith-Sway.
However, Southend United mounted a stirring comeback in the closing stages. Sam Austin pulled a goal back in the 78th minute, assisted by Harry Cardwell. The deficit was reduced further in the 85th minute when Charley Kendall scored, again with an assist from Harry Cardwell. Despite their valiant efforts, Southend United were unable to salvage a point.
Hartlepool United made a substitution at halftime, with Tom Parkes replacing Cameron John. Jay Smith-Sway was introduced in the 58th minute, coming on for Adam Campbell. Southend United also made changes, with Gus Scott-Morriss making way for Sam Austin at halftime, and further substitutions were made in the second half.
