Rochdale 2-4 Morecambe

The Crown Oil Arena played host to a high-scoring encounter as Morecambe ultimately secured a 4-2 victory over Rochdale in the English National League. The visitors demonstrated superior finishing to claim a crucial three points.

Rochdale opened the scoring in the 19th minute. A pass from Ryan East found Aidan Barlow, who converted to give the home side the lead. However, this advantage was short-lived.

Morecambe drew level in the 32nd minute. Lewis Payne scored, with Jack Nolan providing the assist, to make it 1-1. This goal marked a turning point, with Morecambe beginning to dictate play.

The second half saw Morecambe take control. In the 66th minute, Lewis Payne netted his second goal of the match, assisted by Gwion Edwards, to put Morecambe ahead for the first time.

Just six minutes later, Morecambe extended their lead. Gwion Edwards again provided the assist, this time for Jack Nolan, who scored Morecambe’s third goal, establishing a 1-3 scoreline.

Rochdale rallied in the 78th minute. Substitute Ian Henderson, who had been on the pitch for nine minutes, scored for the Dale, assisted by Ethan Ebanks-Landell, to reduce the deficit and reignite hope.

Despite Rochdale’s efforts to find an equaliser, Morecambe sealed their victory in the 98th minute. Ben Tollitt, a substitute, scored the final goal, assisted by Jack Nolan, to confirm the 4-2 scoreline.

Disciplinary action was taken during the match. Paul Lewis of Morecambe received a yellow card in the 43rd minute for a foul. Rochdale’s Luke Hannant was booked in the 50th minute and Kyron Gordon in the 92nd minute, both for fouls.

Tactical substitutions were made by both sides. Rochdale introduced John-Kymani Gordon, Harvey Gilmour, and Ian Henderson in an attempt to influence the game. Morecambe brought on George Thomas, Timothy Akindileni, and Ben Tollitt, with Tollitt going on to score.

The result sees Rochdale remain in a strong second position in the English National League, with 98 points from 42 matches. Morecambe, meanwhile, occupy 22nd place with 37 points from the same number of games, making this victory vital in their battle for survival.

Right then, let’s have a butchers at Rochdale versus Morecambe. The final score was a cracking 2-4 to the away side, Morecambe. Bookies had Rochdale as the favourites, with odds of 29/100, the draw at 17/4, and Morecambe a tasty 7/1. TopB1ns Edge, bless its cotton socks, went for a Rochdale win – a bit of a howler there, eh? Looks like the Edge needs a bit more fine-tuning, that’s for sure.

However, where the TopB1ns Edge really shone was on the goals front. It correctly predicted Both Teams to Score (BTTS), which paid out at 7/25 with the bookies, and absolutely nailed the Over 0.5, 1.5, 2.5, and 3.5 goals markets. It even called Over 4.5 and 5.5 goals, which landed, although it did tip Under 6.5 goals, which was a bit of a miss given the seven-goal thriller. Still, a decent showing from the model, even with a few teething issues. Plenty of goals to get stuck into, that’s for sure!
