Scunthorpe United 2-2 Rochdale

The Attis Arena was the stage for a pulsating encounter as Scunthorpe United and Rochdale played out a thrilling 2-2 draw in the English National League. The match delivered an entertaining spectacle with dramatic intensity, as fortunes fluctuated and the lead changed hands.

Rochdale drew first blood in the 31st minute. Luke Hannant, assisted by Emmanuel Dieseruvwe, found the back of the net, handing the visitors a crucial advantage. They maintained this slender lead until the interval.

The second half began with Rochdale extending their lead. Aidan Barlow scored in the 51st minute, doubling their advantage and seemingly putting the game beyond the reach of the home side.

However, Scunthorpe United demonstrated commendable resilience. They began their comeback in the 60th minute when Callum Roberts reduced the deficit, assisted by Andrew Boyce. This goal injected renewed vigour into the Iron’s play.

Scunthorpe’s tactical adjustments became evident as they sought to press their advantage. In the 69th minute, a double substitution saw Leo Farrell and Alfie Beestin enter the fray. This change proved inspired. As the clock ticked towards full-time, Scunthorpe’s pressure told. In the 87th minute, substitute Alfie Beestin netted the crucial equaliser, snatching a point for his side and completing a spirited comeback.

The match also saw a couple of bookings. Scunthorpe’s Joe Rowley received a yellow card in the 53rd minute for a foul, while Rochdale’s Kyron Gordon was cautioned in the 88th minute, also for a foul. Substitutions were made by both teams throughout the second half. Rochdale made changes in the 69th and 82nd minutes, while Scunthorpe introduced fresh legs in the 78th minute.

The draw leaves Scunthorpe United in fifth place in the National League standings with 74 points from 40 games played. Rochdale continue to lead the league, sitting at the summit with 95 points from their 40 fixtures.

Right then, let’s have a butcher’s at this Scunthorpe v Rochdale dust-up. The final whistle blew on a 2-2 draw, which means the bookies got the outright result bang on – a draw it was. They were offering 12/5 for the stalemate, same as they were for a Scunthorpe win, with Rochdale a bit shorter at 1/1.

Now, the TopB1ns Edge, bless its cotton socks, fancied Rochdale to nick it. That one didn’t quite land, but no worries, early days for the model, still got its teething issues.

Where the Edge did shine, though, was on the goals front. It called BTTS: Yes, and at 67/100, that was a nice little winner. All the Over bets for 0.5, 1.5, 2.5, and 3.5 goals were also spot on, showing the model’s decent at predicting a lively affair. It even correctly called Under 4.5 goals, which was a bit of a punt given the goalmouth action. All in all, a mixed bag, but the Edge is definitely showing promise, especially when it comes to predicting goals. Needs a bit of fine-tuning on the outrights, but we’re getting there!
