Grosvenor Vale was the stage for a dramatic National League contest as Wealdstone snatched a thrilling 3-2 victory over Tamworth. The match was characterised by a relentless attacking intent from both sides, with Micah Obiero’s second-half strike proving to be the decisive moment, condemning Tamworth to a frustrating defeat after they had held the lead on two occasions.
Tamworth drew first blood in the 21st minute. A well-worked move culminated in Dan Creaney providing the assist for Stefan Mols, who expertly found the back of the net to give the visitors an early advantage. However, this lead was short-lived. Wealdstone responded with vigour and drew level just eight minutes later. Dylan Kadji, with an assist from Deonysus Woodman, brought the home side level with a composed finish.
The see-saw nature of the first half continued as Tamworth regained their lead in the 35th minute. Ben Acquaye was the scorer, firing his side back in front with a goal that appeared significant just before the interval. Yet, Wealdstone demonstrated their resilience once more. Sean Jordan Adarkwa, set up by Dominic Hutchinson, ensured the teams went into the break all square, netting the equaliser in the 44th minute.
The second half saw both teams pushing for a decisive breakthrough. Tamworth made a tactical substitution in the 62nd minute, introducing Ben Milnes in place of Teo Kurtaran, in an attempt to gain control of the midfield. Wealdstone, spurred on by the home crowd, continued to press, and their persistence was rewarded in the 68th minute. Micah Obiero scored the decisive goal, securing all three points for the Stones and completing a memorable comeback.
Tamworth received three yellow cards during the match, with Teo Kurtaran, Matthias Curley, and Callum Cockerill-Mollett all being cautioned by the referee. Wealdstone also made several substitutions in the latter stages of the game, including the introductions of Enzio Boldewijn and Olufela Olomola, as they sought to secure their victory.
This result sees Wealdstone climb to 10th in the National League table, accumulating 45 points from 35 games played. Tamworth remain in 11th place, also on 45 points but having played an additional fixture. Tamworth’s recent form has seen them suffer three consecutive defeats, while Wealdstone are now on a two-match winning streak.
