Boreham Wood secured a dramatic 3-2 victory over York City at the Mangata Developments Stadium Meadow Park. The match, played under the floodlights, proved to be a thrilling spectacle with both sides demonstrating relentless attacking intent.
York City drew first blood in the sixth minute. Zak Johnson played a crucial pass to Ollie Pearce, who found the back of the net to give the visitors an early lead. The intensity of the contest was evident, with Boreham Wood manager Luke Garrard receiving a yellow card in the 22nd minute for dissent.
The second half began with renewed vigour from the home side. Three minutes after the restart, Zak Brunt provided the assist for Lewis Richardson, who calmly slotted home to level the score at 1-1.
The turning point arrived in the 61st minute when York City’s Josh Stones received his second yellow card, reducing the visitors to ten men. Boreham Wood capitalised on this numerical advantage. In the 78th minute, Zak Brunt once again turned provider, setting up Cameron Coxe to fire Boreham Wood into a 2-1 lead.
The home side extended their lead in the 87th minute. Regan Booty delivered a precise assist to Charlie O’Connell, who scored to make it 3-1.
However, York City demonstrated commendable resilience. Deep into added time, in the 92nd minute, substitute Ollie Banks, introduced in the 66th minute, managed to pull a goal back for York City, making the score 3-2. Despite a late surge from the visitors, Boreham Wood held firm to secure the victory.
This win sees Boreham Wood solidify their position in the upper echelons of the English National League, now sitting in fourth place with 67 points from 35 games. York City remain in a strong second position in the league table with 83 points from 36 matches played.
