The Attis Arena was the scene of a pulsating encounter in the English National League as Scunthorpe United and Solihull Moors battled to a dramatic 3-3 draw. The match was characterised by relentless attacking intent from both sides, with a late surge and a dramatic equaliser ultimately securing a point for the visitors.
Solihull Moors drew first blood in the 15th minute. A well-worked move saw Darius Lipsiuc provide the assist for Conor Wilkinson, who found the back of the net to give the Moors a slender advantage. The visitors doubled their lead just before half time, again through the clinical finishing of Conor Wilkinson. This second goal, without an immediate assist recorded, put Scunthorpe under significant pressure heading into the interval.
The home side emerged from the break with renewed determination. Their persistence paid off in the 48th minute when Daniel Whitehall, assisted by Andrew Boyce, halved the deficit. The momentum seemed to be shifting, but Scunthorpe’s task was made considerably harder in the 53rd minute when Tyler French was shown a second yellow card, reducing Solihull Moors to ten men.
Despite being a man down, Solihull Moors defended resolutely for a period. However, the numerical disadvantage eventually told. In a remarkable turnaround, Scunthorpe United, spurred on by the vocal home support, found a new gear. Daniel Whitehall completed his brace in the 80th minute, with Callum Roberts providing the assist, to level the score. The comeback was completed just five minutes later when Whitehall, again set up by Roberts, netted his third goal of the afternoon, firing Scunthorpe United into a 3-2 lead.
Just as it seemed the Iron had snatched all three points, Solihull Moors conjured a dramatic late equaliser. In the 95th minute, substitute Oliver Tipton, who had been introduced in the 70th minute, provided the assist for Isaac Moore to score, levelling the contest at 3-3 and ensuring a share of the spoils.
The result sees Scunthorpe United remain in sixth place in the National League table with 61 points from 34 matches, still firmly in the playoff positions. Solihull Moors, meanwhile, occupy 11th place with 43 points from their 34 games, reflecting a mid-table standing. The thrilling encounter highlighted the attacking prowess and dramatic potential that both Scunthorpe United and Solihull Moors possess.
