Yeovil Town secured a vital three points at Huish Park, overcoming Braintree Town in a spirited encounter that ultimately saw four goals in the second half. The Glovers, looking to build on their recent positive form, found themselves in a tense stalemate for much of the opening period, but a flurry of second-half action ultimately decided the contest.
The first half was a cagey affair, with both sides probing for an opening but failing to convert their territorial advantage into clear-cut chances. Defences were largely on top, and the half ended goalless, leaving the capacity crowd at Huish Park anticipating a second-half breakthrough.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 61st minute. Luke McCormick found himself in space and made no mistake, slotting the ball home to give Yeovil Town the lead. The goal seemed to galvanise the home side, and just four minutes later, their advantage was doubled. James Daly was on hand to convert, doubling Yeovil’s lead and putting them in a commanding position.
However, Braintree Town responded swiftly, demonstrating their own attacking threat. In the 69th minute, a well-worked move saw substitute Goran Babic, who had entered the fray just minutes earlier, provide the assist for Lewis Walker. Walker’s strike halved the deficit and injected a renewed sense of urgency into the match.
The introduction of Babic had clearly injected some life into the visitors, but Yeovil Town were determined to hold onto their lead. As the game entered its final stages, the tension remained palpable. Yeovil Town then sealed their victory in the 84th minute when Brett McGavin found the back of the net, restoring their two-goal cushion and effectively ending Braintree’s hopes of a comeback.
The victory sees Yeovil Town climb to 15th in the English National League standings with 31 points from 26 matches, while Braintree Town remain in 19th place with 24 points. The result provides Yeovil with a welcome boost as they continue their campaign.
