FC Halifax Town secured a commanding 2-0 victory over Tamworth at The Lamb Ground, extending their unbeaten run and solidifying their position in the upper echelons of the National League.
The visitors asserted their dominance from the outset, finding the breakthrough in the third minute. A well-placed pass from Josh Hmami found Will Smith, who converted to give FC Halifax Town the lead. This early strike set the tone for the encounter, leaving Tamworth with an uphill battle.
Their task became significantly steeper in the 19th minute when William Harris doubled the visitors’ advantage. Harris received the ball and found the back of the net, extending the lead to 2-0. Despite the setback, Tamworth continued to battle but struggled to break down a resolute Halifax defence.
The first half saw a number of bookings. FC Halifax Town’s Owen Devonport and Angelo Capello received yellow cards for fouls in the 15th and 32nd minutes respectively. Tamworth, meanwhile, looked to find their footing but were largely stifled by the visitors’ organised approach. Kwaku Donkor of Tamworth was also shown a yellow card for a foul in the 57th minute.
The second half began with FC Halifax Town continuing to press, with Cody Johnson picking up a yellow card for a foul in the 49th minute. In the 66th minute, Tamworth manager Andy Peaks made a series of tactical substitutions, bringing on Luke Fairlamb, Matthias Curley, and Beck-Ray Enoru in an attempt to inject fresh impetus into his side. However, these changes failed to yield the desired impact. Tamworth continued to probe for a way back into the game, with Oliver Lynch being replaced by Tom Tonks in the 80th minute as they pushed for an offensive solution.
The closing stages of the match saw further substitutions. FC Halifax Town introduced Jay Turner-Cooke in the 77th minute and David Kawa in the 88th minute. Tamworth brought on Thierry Latty-Fairweather in the 93rd minute. The game concluded with Tamworth manager Andy Peaks being sent off in the 84th minute after receiving a second yellow card, followed by a red card for foul and abusive language.
The victory sees FC Halifax Town move up to eighth in the National League standings with 38 points from 25 games, while Tamworth remain in 13th place with 31 points, having played the same number of matches. This result marks a significant three points for Halifax, boosting their promotion aspirations.
