The J. Davidson Stadium played host to a dramatic English National League encounter between Altrincham and York City, a match ultimately decided by late drama. York City secured a hard fought 2-1 victory, overcoming a spirited Altrincham side.
Altrincham’s task was made considerably more difficult in the 16th minute when Owen German received a second yellow card, reducing the home team to ten men for the remainder of the game.
Despite their numerical disadvantage, Altrincham defended resolutely. However, York City took the lead in the 42nd minute. Alex Newby scored for the visitors, with Josh Stones providing the assist. York City held this slender advantage going into half time.
In the second half, Altrincham pushed for an equaliser. Their persistence paid off in the 90th minute when substitute Lucas Weaver, who had been introduced in the 83rd minute, scored to level the score. Tylor Golden was credited with the assist.
The jubilation for the home side was short lived. In the 91st minute, Ollie Pearce scored the winning goal for York City, assisted by Mark Kitching. This decisive strike sealed a 2-1 victory for the visitors.
Prior to this fixture, York City occupied third place in the league standings with 49 points from 23 games. This win took their tally to 52 points, strengthening their position at the top of the table. Altrincham remain in 16th place with 26 points from 25 games.
