Morecambe secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Brackley Town at St. James Park, with George Thomas scoring both goals to seal the three points for the visitors. This win marks a welcome return to winning ways for Ashvir Johal’s side, who had endured a difficult run of form prior to this encounter.
From the outset, Morecambe looked to assert their dominance, pressing high and aiming to capitalise on any early turnovers. Brackley Town, however, remained resolute in their defensive shape, marshalled by Gareth Dean, frustrating the visitors’ initial attacking forays. The opening period was characterised by a midfield battle, with neither side able to establish sustained control.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 31st minute. George Thomas found himself on the end of a well-worked move and made no mistake in putting Morecambe ahead, giving his side the crucial advantage heading into the interval. Brackley Town responded by introducing Danny Newton from the bench in the 57th minute, seeking to inject more attacking impetus into their midfield.
The tactical adjustments continued for both sides as the second half unfolded. Morecambe made a double substitution in the 59th minute, bringing on Ludwig Francillette and Mo Sangare in an attempt to solidify their defence and control the game. Brackley Town made a further change in the 69th minute, with Ben Wodskou replacing Kyle Morrison as they pushed for an equaliser.
However, it was Morecambe who doubled their lead in the 68th minute. George Thomas was on target once more, this time assisted by Ben Tollitt, effectively sealing the victory for the visitors. This second goal seemed to deflate Brackley Town, who had worked hard to stay in the contest.
The remainder of the match saw a series of substitutions from both camps as they looked to manage the game and give opportunities to fringe players. Despite a few yellow cards being shown late on, including to Morecambe’s Jack Nolan and Mo Sangare in added time, the scoreline remained unchanged.
The result sees Morecambe climb to 21st in the English National League standings, now on 20 points, while Brackley Town remain rooted to the bottom of the table in 20th place, also on 20 points, but with a significantly worse goal difference. This win will provide a much-needed boost to Morecambe’s morale as they look to build momentum in the second half of the season.
