Yeovil Town claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over Altrincham in a hard-fought National League match at Huish Park. Referee Wayne Cartmel oversaw a match punctuated by yellow cards and tactical substitutions as both teams vied for dominance.
The first half was a cautious affair, with Altrincham’s Lewis Baines receiving a yellow card in the 21st minute, followed by Matthew Kosylo in the 45th minute, both for fouls. The stalemate was broken in the 32nd minute when Morgan Williams scored for Yeovil Town, assisted by Andrew Oluwabori, giving the home side a slender lead to take into half-time.
In the second half, Yeovil looked to solidify their advantage, while Altrincham searched for an equaliser. The game became increasingly physical, resulting in yellow cards for Yeovil Town’s Junior Morias in the 54th minute and Kyle Ferguson in the 61st minute.
Yeovil manager Daniel Webb made a series of tactical substitutions. Aaron Jarvis replaced Tahvon Campbell in the 66th minute, quickly followed by Alex Whittle replacing Jake Wannell in the 67th minute. In the 70th minute, Brett McGavin came on for Junior Morias, coinciding with Altrincham’s substitution of Elliot Osborne for Matthew Kosylo. Harvey Greenslade then replaced Andrew Oluwabori, the provider of the earlier assist, in the 80th minute.
Despite Altrincham’s efforts to find a breakthrough, they were unable to penetrate the Yeovil defence, and the match ended with the home side securing all three points.
This victory moves Yeovil Town up to 12th place in the National League standings, with 16 points from 12 games, a rise from their pre-match position of 13th. Altrincham, managed by Phil Parkinson, remain in 18th place, with 12 points from their 12 matches, continuing their losing streak. While past encounters between these teams have often resulted in draws, this match saw Yeovil secure a vital win.
