Southend United 3-0 FC Halifax Town

Southend United claimed a significant victory over FC Halifax Town at Roots Hall, a scoreline that perhaps exaggerated the home side’s superiority but ultimately reflected their command, especially in the closing stages. Referee Paul Johnson officiated the match, which saw Southend ascend the National League table, while Halifax were left to lament missed opportunities and a detrimental sending off.

The first half began cautiously, with both teams probing for weaknesses. Southend gradually gained control, and their sustained pressure paid off in the 31st minute when Andy Dallas, assisted by Gus Scott-Morriss, scored, granting the Shrimpers a crucial lead heading into half-time. Halifax struggled to fashion clear chances, their attacks frequently faltering before genuinely threatening the Southend defence. Adam Alimi-Adetoro received a yellow card in the 36th minute for a foul, compounding Halifax’s problems.

Halifax began the second half with renewed energy, but their efforts were undermined in the 69th minute when Alimi-Adetoro received his second yellow card, resulting in a red and reducing his team to ten players. Southend exploited their numerical advantage, maintaining possession and controlling the game’s rhythm. Halifax made a series of substitutions, hoping to introduce fresh energy and attacking threat, but without success. Southend also made substitutions, including Oliver Coker’s late introduction.

The game remained tight as it approached the final minutes, with Halifax urgently seeking an equaliser. However, Southend secured the victory in the 90th minute when Gus Scott-Morriss scored, assisted by Sam Austin. Southend were not finished. In the 105th minute, Ben Goodliffe, assisted by substitute Oliver Coker, added a third, confirming a comprehensive victory for the home side.

The win lifts Southend United further up the National League standings, their season record now standing at five wins, two draws, and one loss. FC Halifax Town, meanwhile, will need to recover from this setback, as they currently occupy a lower position in the league table with two wins, two draws, and four losses.

Right, Southend 3, Halifax 0. A proper spanking for the Shaymen.

The bookies had Southend at 11/20, and TopB1ns Edge, bang on, called a home win. Smart stuff.

BTTS? Nah, TopB1ns Edge nailed it. A clean sheet for the Shrimpers, just like we predicted. The bookies were dangling 11/10 for ‘yes’, but we were having none of it at 67/100.

Over/Under? Now, here’s where the TopB1ns Edge model had a few teething issues. It correctly called Over 2.5 and Under 3.5, 4.5, 5.5, and 6.5. But it was off on O/U 0.5 and 1.5. Still, not a bad showing for its first run.

Scott-Morriss bagging a goal was a nice touch, too. A proper English name on the scoresheet.

Overall, a solid day at the office. Room for improvement, but the TopB1ns Edge is showing promise. Onwards and upwards, chaps!
