Gateshead 0-2 Altrincham

Gateshead suffered a disappointing evening at the Gateshead International Stadium, losing 0-2 to Altrincham in the English National League. The home side, aiming to extend their recent undefeated run, were undone by a clinical first-half display from Altrincham.

The visitors quickly asserted their dominance, taking the lead in the 12th minute through Lewis Banks, assisted by Keaton Ward. Gateshead struggled to gain a foothold in the match, and Altrincham capitalised again in the 35th minute. Tylor Golden added a second goal, with Jimmy Knowles claiming the assist.

Facing a two-goal deficit, Gateshead manager Alun Armstrong made a double substitution at half-time, introducing Max Sheaf and Josh Home in place of Fenton John and Will Flint, respectively, hoping to revitalise his midfield.

However, Altrincham remained resolute, and Gateshead’s challenge intensified in the 60th minute when Connor Pani received a yellow card for a foul. Altrincham manager Phil Parkinson responded with his first tactical change in the 67th minute, replacing Lewis Baines with Sam Barnes in defence.

Pani’s evening worsened considerably in the 75th minute when he received a second yellow card for another foul, resulting in a red card and reducing Gateshead to ten men. Prior to that, Altrincham made a double substitution in the 73rd minute, with Oliver Crankshaw replacing Jimmy Knowles, who provided an assist in the 35th minute, and Charlie Kirk replacing Kahrel Reddin.

As the match progressed, both managers continued to adjust their lineups. In the 81st minute, Gateshead introduced Ethan Fitzhugh in place of Harry Chapman. Altrincham responded in the 84th minute with a double substitution of their own, bringing on Lucas Weaver for James Gale and Matthew Kosylo for Keaton Ward, who provided an assist in the 12th minute. Gateshead made a final substitution in the 90th minute, replacing Kenton Richardson with Ben Williams.

The match concluded with Altrincham securing a 2-0 victory. The result sees Gateshead’s record now standing at three wins, one draw, and three losses, causing them to slip down the league table. Altrincham, meanwhile, climb the table, improving their record to three wins and four losses.
