Scunthorpe United 1-1 FC Halifax Town

A keenly contested match at the Attis Arena concluded with Scunthorpe United and FC Halifax Town sharing the points in a 1-1 draw, a result shaped by a red card and a flurry of second-half goals.

The first half was a cautious affair, with neither side able to establish clear dominance. Both teams probed, but genuine scoring opportunities were scarce. The midfield battle proved particularly fierce, characterised by robust challenges as neither side yielded ground. The first notable incident occurred in the 17th minute when FC Halifax Town’s Cody Johnson received a yellow card, a sign of the increasing physicality of the contest.

The match took a decisive turn in the 40th minute when Branden Horton of Scunthorpe United was shown a straight red card for violent conduct, reducing the home side to ten men. This prompted a tactical reshuffle from Scunthorpe manager Andy Butler, who introduced Jean Belehouan in place of Oliver Rose just before the interval in an attempt to bolster the defence. FC Halifax Town’s Thierry Latty-Fairweather also received a yellow card in the same minute, underscoring the increasingly heated atmosphere.

The second half began with a flurry of activity. Despite their numerical disadvantage, Scunthorpe United took the lead in the 52nd minute through Callum Roberts, assisted by Joseph Starbuck. The home supporters greeted the goal with enthusiasm, their team seemingly defying the odds. However, their lead proved short-lived. Just three minutes later, FC Halifax Town responded. David Kawa, assisted by Sean Tarima, found the net, levelling the score.

The quickfire goals, coupled with the earlier dismissal, seemed to inject further urgency into both sides’ play. Declan Howe of Scunthorpe United received a yellow card in the 51st minute, followed by Will Evans in the 58th, as the challenges continued to come in thick and fast.

As the game progressed, both managers sought to influence the outcome through substitutions. In the 69th minute, Scunthorpe United replaced goalscorer Callum Roberts with Kian Scales and Oliver Ewing with Max Brogan, aiming to inject fresh impetus into their midfield. FC Halifax Town responded in the 72nd minute, introducing Angelo Capello for Will Hugill in an attempt to secure a winning goal.

The closing stages saw further changes as both teams searched for a late winner. FC Halifax Town brought on Tom Pugh for Owen Bray in the 85th minute, while Scunthorpe United replaced Declan Howe with Dubem Eze a minute later. In the 89th minute, FC Halifax Town made their final substitution, with Zak Emmerson replacing Sean Tarima. Ultimately, however, neither side could find a breakthrough, and the match concluded with the scoreline at 1-1.

The draw leaves Scunthorpe United in 6th position in the league table with 10 points, while FC Halifax Town sit further down in 19th place with 4 points.
