Gateshead 2-1 Tamworth

Gateshead edged out Tamworth in a tightly contested 2-1 victory at the Gateshead International Stadium, a match marked by tactical shifts and late drama. While the scoreline suggests a comfortable win, Tamworth’s late resurgence ensured a nervy finish for the home side.

Gateshead gradually asserted their authority in the first half. Tamworth were forced into an early substitution in the 15th minute, with Thomas McGlinchey replacing Tyler Roberts in midfield. Gateshead broke the deadlock in the 26th minute when Will Flint scored, assisted by Kenton Richardson. The remainder of the first half was a battle for control, with Gateshead maintaining a slender lead going into the interval. Gateshead made a substitution at half-time, introducing David Ferguson in place of Joe Grayson.

Tamworth began the second half with renewed energy, though their momentum was disrupted when Joe Riley received a yellow card in the 51st minute for a foul. Kenton Richardson of Gateshead was also shown a yellow card in the 58th minute. Gateshead extended their lead in the 69th minute, with Will Flint scoring his second goal of the match. A flurry of substitutions followed as both teams sought to inject fresh impetus. Gateshead brought on Fenton John and Frank Nouble, while Tamworth responded with Oliver Lynch and Tom Tonks. The substitutions continued in the 82nd minute when Tamworth introduced Stefan Mols and Harvey Sayer. Tensions rose as Kain Adom and Luke Fairlamb both received yellow cards.

Just as Gateshead appeared to be cruising to victory, Tamworth substitute Harvey Sayer, who entered the fray in the 82nd minute, scored in the 91st minute to reduce the deficit. Despite the late goal from Sayer, Gateshead managed to hold on to secure the win.

This victory lifts Gateshead to 10th in the National League standings, with six points from four matches. Tamworth, meanwhile, find themselves in 17th place with three points.
