Yeovil Town 0-0 Hartlepool United

Yeovil Town and Hartlepool United played out a goalless draw at Huish Park, each securing a point as their National League seasons commenced. A number of substitutions in the second half and a flurry of yellow cards failed to unlock either defence.

The first half was a cautious affair, with both sides probing for weaknesses. The physicality of the match was punctuated by a yellow card for Hartlepool’s Jamie Miley in the 27th minute, following a foul. Jermaine Francis of Hartlepool also received a booking shortly before half-time.

The second half saw a more open contest, prompting tactical adjustments from both sides. Yeovil manager Mark Cooper sought to invigorate his attack, replacing Luke McCormick with Tahvon Campbell in the 63rd minute. James Daly of Yeovil was cautioned for a foul in the 59th minute. Cooper then introduced Junior Morias in the 70th minute, substituting Daly, in an attempt to break the deadlock.

Hartlepool manager Simon Grayson responded with a double substitution in the 72nd minute, bringing on Matty Daly for Danny Johnson and Maxim Kouogun for Besart Topalloj, with the aim of strengthening the defence and injecting creativity into midfield. However, the changes did not alter the score.

As the match neared its conclusion, Yeovil made a double substitution in the 79th minute, introducing Ben Wodskou and Brett McGavin for Aaron Jarvis and Alex Whittle respectively, in a final attempt to find a winning goal. Jake Wannell received a yellow card for Yeovil in the 67th minute, and Charlie Cooper joined him in the referee’s book in the 86th minute. Hartlepool then replaced Jermaine Francis with Luke Charman in the 87th minute, but the match ended 0-0.

The draw leaves both Yeovil and Hartlepool with a single point each after the opening matchday. Yeovil, after a recent struggle for victories, will be aiming to build on this result and improve their attacking play in the coming weeks. Hartlepool, generally consistent in front of goal, will be disappointed not to have scored, but will take some satisfaction from a clean sheet away from home.

Bloody hell, what a bore draw at Huish Park. Yeovil and Hartlepool, not exactly setting the pitch alight, eh? Finished nil-nil, meaning TopB1ns Edge was bang out of order tipping Yeovil at 69/50. Should’ve been down the pub instead, that’s for sure.

The one glimmer of hope was TopB1ns Edge correctly calling “No” for BTTS, nicking a win there at 19/20. A few quid back, at least.

As for the Over/Under, it was all unders, as predicted by TopB1ns Edge for O/U 2.5, 3.5, 4.5, 5.5, 6.5 and 7.5. But the Edge completely missed the mark on O/U 0.5 and 1.5, tipping overs when they were clearly unders.

So, a mixed bag, innit? TopB1ns Edge had a shocker on the match result, but the BTTS and unders saved a bit of face. Back to the drawing board, and maybe a stiffer drink this time.
