Scunthorpe United secured a narrow 2-1 victory over Tamworth at The Lamb Ground in a closely fought English National League encounter, overseen by referee Elliott Swallow.
Scunthorpe took an early lead in the 4th minute, courtesy of Daniel Whitehall. Tamworth responded in the 36th minute when Haydn Hollis found the net, levelling the score. Just before the interval, in the 43rd minute, Oliver Ewing, assisted by Callum Roberts, restored Scunthorpe’s lead.
The first half also saw a number of cautions issued. Tamworth’s Ben Milnes received a yellow card in the 3rd minute, swiftly followed by Scunthorpe’s Alfie Beestin in the 6th minute. Tyler Roberts of Tamworth was then booked in the 18th minute. Joe Rowley of Scunthorpe United received a yellow card in the 47th minute.
Tamworth manager Andy Peaks made the first substitution of the match in the 56th minute, introducing Joe Riley in place of Ben Milnes. This was followed by a further change in the 59th minute, with Beck-Ray Enoru replacing Thomas McGlinchey. Scunthorpe manager Andy Butler responded in the 60th minute, bringing on Kian Scales for Alfie Beestin. In the 66th minute, Carlton Ubaezuonu replaced goalscorer Daniel Whitehall.
As the match progressed, both sides continued to make changes. In the 82nd minute, Scunthorpe made a triple substitution, with Mark Beck replacing Declan Howe, Oliver Rose replacing Oliver Ewing, and Billy Chadwick replacing Callum Roberts. Tamworth responded immediately in the 83rd minute, making a triple substitution of their own: Manny Duku for Oliver Lynch, Jordan Ponticelli for Stefan Mols, and Harvey Sayer for Tyler Roberts.
Despite Tamworth’s late efforts and tactical changes, Scunthorpe United maintained their advantage to claim all three points.
