Tamworth 1-2 Scunthorpe United

Scunthorpe United secured a narrow 2-1 victory over Tamworth at The Lamb Ground in a closely fought English National League encounter, overseen by referee Elliott Swallow.

Scunthorpe took an early lead in the 4th minute, courtesy of Daniel Whitehall. Tamworth responded in the 36th minute when Haydn Hollis found the net, levelling the score. Just before the interval, in the 43rd minute, Oliver Ewing, assisted by Callum Roberts, restored Scunthorpe’s lead.

The first half also saw a number of cautions issued. Tamworth’s Ben Milnes received a yellow card in the 3rd minute, swiftly followed by Scunthorpe’s Alfie Beestin in the 6th minute. Tyler Roberts of Tamworth was then booked in the 18th minute. Joe Rowley of Scunthorpe United received a yellow card in the 47th minute.

Tamworth manager Andy Peaks made the first substitution of the match in the 56th minute, introducing Joe Riley in place of Ben Milnes. This was followed by a further change in the 59th minute, with Beck-Ray Enoru replacing Thomas McGlinchey. Scunthorpe manager Andy Butler responded in the 60th minute, bringing on Kian Scales for Alfie Beestin. In the 66th minute, Carlton Ubaezuonu replaced goalscorer Daniel Whitehall.

As the match progressed, both sides continued to make changes. In the 82nd minute, Scunthorpe made a triple substitution, with Mark Beck replacing Declan Howe, Oliver Rose replacing Oliver Ewing, and Billy Chadwick replacing Callum Roberts. Tamworth responded immediately in the 83rd minute, making a triple substitution of their own: Manny Duku for Oliver Lynch, Jordan Ponticelli for Stefan Mols, and Harvey Sayer for Tyler Roberts.

Despite Tamworth’s late efforts and tactical changes, Scunthorpe United maintained their advantage to claim all three points.

This result places Scunthorpe United in 7th position in the league table with 3 points, while Tamworth are in 16th place with 0 points.

Tamworth 1, Scunthorpe 2. Bloody typical, innit?

The bookies had Scunthorpe as away favourites at 11/5, and they were spot on. TopB1ns Edge, however, was having a laugh, backing Tamworth to win. That’s one down.

At least TopB1ns Edge got the BTTS right. Both teams scored, like any proper English match should. That’s a win at 67/100.

But the Over/Under? A right shambles. TopB1ns Edge was screaming “Overs!” for 0.5, 1.5, and 2.5, but we only scraped over 2.5. The Edge did get the O/U 3.5, 4.5, 5.5, and 6.5 calls right, backing the Unders all the way. So, a mixed bag there, more luck than judgement, I reckon.

All in all, a mixed bag. The bookies knew best this time, but TopB1ns Edge still pulled something out of the fire. Time for a pint to drown my sorrows… and celebrate the small wins, of course.
