Southend United put in a dominant performance at Roots Hall, securing a 3-0 victory over Wealdstone in a display of impressive attacking football. The win significantly strengthens Southend’s bid for a National League play-off spot.
The Shrimpers started strongly, with Ben Goodliffe opening the scoring in the 8th minute, assisted by Gus Scott-Morriss. Southend maintained control throughout much of the first half, successfully preventing Wealdstone from creating any meaningful chances to level the score.
Southend continued to press in the second half, and Charley Kendall extended their lead in the 64th minute. Wealdstone responded with a double substitution in the 72nd minute, bringing on Dominic Hutchinson and Micah Obiero. Southend then introduced Josh Walker and Macauley Bonne, with Bonne replacing goalscorer Kendall in the 73rd minute.
Tempers flared midway through the second half, resulting in yellow cards for both Noor Husin and Harrison Sohna in the 57th minute following fouls. Wealdstone’s frustration became increasingly apparent as the game progressed, with Dominic Hutchinson and Connor McAvoy also receiving cautions late in the match.
Southend remained in control, and their substitutions proved effective as Macauley Bonne, who entered the pitch in the 73rd minute, sealed the victory with a goal in the 95th minute, assisted by Noor Husin.
The victory lifts Southend United to 7th place in the National League table, with 67 points from 45 games, solidifying their position in the play-off contention. Wealdstone, meanwhile, remain in 21st place with 50 points and face an ongoing battle to secure their National League status.
