Southend United 0-1 Solihull Moors

Southend United’s ambitions of advancing in the National League standings were thwarted at Roots Hall as they succumbed to a narrow defeat against Solihull Moors. A solitary goal in the first half proved decisive in what was otherwise a closely fought match.

The match sparked into action in the 10th minute when Elliot Thorpe, assisted by John Bostock, scored for Solihull Moors. This early goal compelled Southend to pursue an equaliser for the remainder of the match.

The second half saw a series of substitutions as both sides sought to alter the game’s dynamic. Solihull Moors initiated the changes, introducing Reece Hall-Johnson for Marcel Oakley in the 52nd minute. Southend responded in the 67th minute, bringing on Jack Bridge and Cavanagh Miley, aiming to revitalise their midfield. Alex Whitmore of Solihull Moors received a yellow card in the 68th minute. Solihull Moors then replaced goalscorer Elliot Thorpe with Joe Newton in the 72nd minute, and shortly after, Bradley Stevenson replaced Jamey Osborne in the 73rd minute. Southend made further attacking changes: Josh Walker replaced Leon Chambers-Parillon in the 77th minute, and Oliver Coker replaced Gus Scott-Morriss in the 84th minute. In a final attempt to salvage a result, Charley Kendall replaced Tom Hopper for Southend in the 87th minute.

Despite Southend’s efforts and tactical alterations, they were unable to penetrate a determined Solihull Moors defence. The visitors maintained their advantage to secure a valuable three points.

The result sees Southend United remain in 9th position with 60 points. Solihull Moors, meanwhile, climb to 17th with 51 points, increasing their distance from the relegation zone.
