Boston United 1-0 Altrincham

Boston United edged out Altrincham in a closely contested match at the Jakemans Community Stadium, a result that sees them climb in the National League standings. Referee Jason Richardson oversaw the affair, with Frankie Maguire’s first-half goal ultimately separating the two sides.

The first half saw both teams testing the waters, neither managing to assert complete control. Boston, however, broke the deadlock in the 26th minute when Frankie Maguire scored, assisted by Jacob Hazel. This goal appeared to boost the home side’s confidence, as they began to dictate possession with greater assurance.

Altrincham, under the management of Phil Parkinson, returned after the interval with renewed energy. In an attempt to get back into the match, they pressed higher up the pitch, forcing Graham Coughlan’s Boston into a more defensive posture. Boston remained resolute, absorbing the pressure and looking for opportunities to counter-attack.

As the second half progressed, Altrincham’s frustration became evident, leading to a series of substitutions aimed at injecting fresh impetus into their attack. In the 65th minute, Kahrel Reddin replaced Callum Dolan, followed by James Jones coming on for Charlie Olson in the 68th minute. A double substitution in the 75th minute saw Matt Penney and George Wilson replace Tylor Golden and Elliot Osborne respectively, indicating a clear tactical adjustment by the visitors.

Boston responded with substitutions of their own. In the 78th minute, goalscorer Frankie Maguire was replaced by Keaton Ward, and in the 80th minute, Jacob Hazel, who provided the assist, was substituted for James Gale. Altrincham’s final substitution saw Lucas Weaver replace Matthew Kosylo in the 82nd minute. Boston then brought on Olly Green for Dylan Hill in added time.

The match became increasingly fractious towards the end, with Cameron Green of Boston receiving a yellow card in the 71st minute, followed by Altrincham’s Matthew Kosylo a minute later. Tom Crawford of Altrincham also received a yellow card in the 88th minute, reflecting the rising tension as Altrincham desperately sought an equaliser.

Despite their efforts and a number of late set-pieces, Altrincham were unable to penetrate the Boston defence. The final whistle confirmed a hard-fought victory for the home side.

This win provides a significant boost for Boston United, lifting them to 19th in the league with 49 points. Altrincham, who entered the match in a comfortable 8th position with 60 points, will be disappointed to leave The Jakemans Community Stadium empty-handed.
