Boundary Park was the scene of a National League upset as Woking recovered from an early setback to claim a 2-1 victory over Oldham Athletic. Referee William Davis oversaw a match characterised by contrasting halves, with Woking’s second-half performance proving the difference.
Oldham Athletic began strongly, Kian Harratt scoring in the 3rd minute and igniting celebrations among the home supporters. The Latics controlled the early stages, dictating the pace of the game and confining Woking to their own half. However, Woking gradually absorbed the pressure, and despite Oldham retaining their lead at the interval, the visitors showed increasing signs of gaining a foothold in the match.
The second half witnessed a significant shift in momentum. Woking emerged with renewed vigour, their efforts paying off in the 49th minute when Dion Kelly-Evans equalised, assisted by Lewis Walker. This goal visibly galvanised Woking, who continued to apply pressure. Just nine minutes later, in the 58th minute, Lewis Walker turned from provider to scorer, with Jamie Andrews providing the assist, giving Woking the lead for the first time.
In response, Oldham manager Micky Mellon made a triple substitution in the 60th minute, introducing Vimal Yoganathan, Tom Pett, and Joe Garner in place of Tom Conlon, Jordan Rossiter, and Kian Harratt, respectively, seeking to revitalise his team. Woking manager Neal Ardley also made changes, bringing on Inih Effiong and Josh Osude in the 65th minute to consolidate their advantage. Oldham made a further substitution in the 68th minute, with Joe Pritchard replacing Matthew Worthington. As the match progressed, Woking bolstered their defence, replacing goalscorer Lewis Walker with Olatunji Akinola and Harry Beautyman with Adam Chicksen in the 80th minute, while Jermaine Anderson replaced Dale Gorman in the 88th minute to secure the win.
The result sees Woking move up to 17th in the National League table with 49 points. Oldham Athletic remain in 4th position with 66 points.
