Tamworth staged a dramatic second-half comeback to snatch a 2-1 victory against Sutton United at the VBS Community Stadium, leaving the home side reeling. The result avenged an earlier 1-1 draw between the two sides this season.
Sutton United drew first blood in the ninth minute, capitalising on a slick passing move. The ball found its way to Josh Coley, who set up Will Davies for a composed finish and a 1-0 lead. The early goal sparked the game into life, with both sides exchanging chances and challenges. Yellow cards were quickly shown to Davies and Tamworth’s Haydn Hollis, followed by another for Sutton’s Ashley Nadesan as the first half became increasingly competitive. Despite opportunities at both ends, the score remained 1-0 at the break.
Tamworth emerged for the second half with renewed purpose and immediately put Sutton United under sustained pressure. Their dominance paid off just two minutes after the restart. Beck-Ray Enoru’s incisive pass found Thomas McGlinchey, who levelled the scores at 1-1. The equaliser further galvanised Tamworth, who continued their relentless attacking play, though Jasbir Singh picked up a yellow card in the process. Sutton United, searching for a way back into the match, introduced Nana Boateng in place of Jack Wadham. However, it was Tamworth who struck the decisive blow in the 66th minute. Chris Wreh delivered a pinpoint cross to McGlinchey, who headed home his second goal of the game to complete the turnaround.
Having orchestrated the comeback, Wreh and Enoru were then substituted, making way for Dan Creaney and Kai Williams respectively. The closing stages were punctuated by a flurry of yellow cards as both teams fought tooth and nail. Sutton United pressed hard for an equaliser, but the Tamworth defence held firm. The final whistle confirmed a hard-fought 2-1 victory for the visitors, lifting them to 14th in the National League, one place above Sutton United in 13th.
