Oldham Athletic 3-2 Wealdstone

Oldham Athletic produced a stirring comeback at Boundary Park, overturning a two-goal deficit to defeat Wealdstone 3-2 in a pulsating National League encounter. The visitors silenced the home crowd early on when Micah Obiero struck in the 3rd minute to give Wealdstone a surprise lead. Wealdstone’s advantage was doubled in the 29th minute, Max Kretzschmar extending their lead to 2-0 and leaving Oldham with a significant challenge ahead of them. Just before half-time, however, the Latics were handed a lifeline. A flowing move culminated in Jake Caprice providing the assist for Josh Stones to reduce the arrears to 2-1 going into the break.

The second half began with the same frenetic pace, and Oldham’s fightback gained immediate traction. Just moments after the restart, in the 46th minute, Stones completed his brace, levelling the scores at 2-2 with an assist from Will Sutton. The momentum had swung decisively in Oldham’s favour, and they pressed forward relentlessly in search of a winner. Despite Wealdstone making early substitutions in an attempt to stem the tide, they struggled to contain the Latics’ increasingly potent attacks. The decisive moment arrived in the 80th minute. Substitute Mike Fondop-Talum, introduced just 13 minutes earlier, sparked wild celebrations amongst the home faithful as he netted the winner. Oldham confidently saw out the remaining minutes, securing a valuable three points.

The match was a tactical battle, with both sides making adjustments throughout. Wealdstone’s early substitutions indicated a desire to regain control in midfield, while Oldham’s changes were geared towards bolstering their attack, a strategy that ultimately proved decisive. The intensity of the contest was reflected in the yellow cards shown to players from both teams. The victory sees 5th-placed Oldham maintain their push for promotion, while 20th-placed Wealdstone remain in a precarious position in the National League table.
