Woking 0-2 Yeovil Town

Yeovil Town strengthened their play-off push with a decisive 2-0 victory against ten-man Woking at the Laithwaite Community Stadium, a result that plunges the Cards deeper into the relegation battle. The Glovers capitalised on Jack Stretton’s first-half dismissal to secure a valuable three points, ending Woking’s recent dominance in this fixture. Coming into the match, Woking had won their previous two encounters with Yeovil.

The game’s pivotal moment arrived just 17 minutes in. Woking forward Jack Stretton was shown a straight red card for violent conduct, leaving the home side with an uphill task for the remainder of the match. The dismissal forced a reshuffle and a more defensive approach from the Cards.

Yeovil, sensing the shift in momentum, began to exert sustained pressure on the depleted Woking defence. Their dominance eventually told in the 31st minute. A well-constructed move culminated in James Plant finding Brett McGavin, who coolly slotted the ball past the Woking goalkeeper to give the visitors a deserved lead.

Despite their numerical disadvantage, Woking displayed commendable resilience and fought valiantly to stay in contention. Their resolute defending restricted Yeovil’s chances and frustrated the Glovers’ attempts to double their advantage. The half-time whistle provided a welcome respite for the beleaguered home side.

The second half saw Woking continue their determined defensive display, but their efforts were ultimately undone in the 79th minute. Substitute Frank Nouble delivered a pinpoint assist to Finn Cousin-Dawson, who made no mistake in firing home Yeovil’s second goal.

Although both teams made a number of substitutions in the closing stages, the result was never in doubt. Woking, despite their spirited performance, were unable to find a way back into the game. The final whistle confirmed a deserved victory for Yeovil, who moved up to 8th in the National League table. The defeat leaves Woking 18th, having now lost ten of their 21 league matches.
